Hi guys,
Both yesterday and earlier today there have been heavy hail storms in Lefkoşa - the scenes almost gave the appearance of having snow on the ground.
According to the Meteorological Office, in the last 24 hours, for every one square metre it has hailed or rained 26.4 kg in Lefkoşa.
It resulted in a few workplaces on Lefkoşa's industrial estate being flooded.
You get the feeling Winter's now on its way
Regards,
Crumpy

Here's a couple of images of the flooding in Lefkoşa that resulted from the rainfall and hail.
There's an interesting comment made below the report:
Meryem Saygın writes "Familiar images from the industrial estate, but still no precautions taken to prevent it happening"

Oh for the feel of rain!! Have not felt real rain in 6 years here in Sinai. When we got the 5 minute slight shower a couple of years ago silly expats like me were dancing in it & boy it was lush!!! To date I would say the total rainfall experienced would fill a small cup.
Yet another tick in the box for us to come to TRNC - to experience seasons .

You should see the local children when it snows , Anne, usually only on the mountains though. The locals drive up to the mountains and the children build snowmen on the bonnets of cars and you see them driving back with sadly melting lumps of snow acting as figureheads. I should reallyput this on the weird experiences thread but one year, 97 or 98 I think it was, I woke up to a strange light in the bedroom and opened the window to see to my amazement it was snowing. I was teaching English at the time, and when I got to the University it was to find classes had been abandoned while the normally bored and blase (mainland Mainland Turkish teenagers) dropped l0 years and indulged in splendid snowball fights.

Wicked Rambling Rose. I will be finding the steepest hill and using a big tray as a slide if it snows when I get over there. In goes without saying I will have regressed well in excess of 10 years!!! But hey, I will be 'up for it'

That I must see , Anne!
I should make it clear, though, that year was unusual. Normally it only snows on the mountains, or if it falls lower, it doesnt settle. You may have to climb a moutain to find a hill will enough snow to slide down.
There is skiing in the South side however.
