Did you buy Cyprus Today?

After the 33% price increase, that came without warning, has anyone continued buying and if so why?

For me the editor needs to decide if it is a newspaper or a social events bulletin. If the social things were totally seperated there may be more scope for reading the news but often they are mixed in and I just cannot be bothered reading.
Also most of the world news and sport is old reading as most of us read on the internet.
Only things worth reading are front page headlines, Tom Roache and Ipek Ozerem. That is why I will not be paying 4tl.

Wonder if CT sales have dropped? With such an increase I would suspect that it would need a major drop in sales to have any form of effect.

No I haven`t bought it but then I hardly ever bought a paper in the UK .
Only time I buy is if there is a spread on something like the Esentepe Fun run or such like charity event.

I still get it. I prefer to read on the page rather than the screen, particularly local news. and at the risk of being thrown off this board an sent to Coventry , I find CT the best of a not very good choice of local English language papers. I actually gave it up at the last price increase, but I missed the puzzles and letters page and my hands got so dirty and eyes tired with the smeary print of others. I also find on the whole (there are exceptions) the comments are more perceptive and less facile and the reporting more factual. Unless there is a subject of particular interest midweek edition, I normally only buy the weekend edition.
I do agree with message 2, however, it needs to sort out what it is supposed to be. There are too many pages that I just throw away because I am not interested or they are better covered elsewhere.I

Not at all happy with the recent increase. It doesn't seem too long ago since it went from 2TL.
Instead of paying 4TL for Cyprus Today, I thought I would see what the Star has to offer.
I was very surprised. The quality has improved; more interesting political updates, much fewer photos of people eating meals.
Will be buying the Star in future.

Used to buy both editions, was a bit miffed when it went up to 3TL. I dont think it is worth 4TL. Wonder if they have considered going back to a single weekly edition.
Agree with others the Star is now more interesting and much better value, especially online.

Nope 4tl was the straw that broke the camel's back. I now only buy the Star and if that price rises I will re-consider that too. 11 tl a week? I would not spend that much on newspapers in the UK.

So, are we all going to write/e-mail the editor to say why we are not buying and offer suggestions to what WE want to read?

It would be interesting to find out if the price increase HAS affected sales.

I have also stopped buying it, now maybe if they scrapped the mid week issue and we had one larger paper I might buy it again needs much more content not just about Asil Nadir either.

The other side of the coin is that it must be difficult for an English speaking paper . The reason being that they ,I presume, get a lot of requests from ex-pat groups for stories and pictures and the nature of the beast is that is is going to be the same sort of requests: Charity do`s,opening of bars, dance venues...........................so it is not just the papers fault for content but US, the EX PAT COMMUNITY.....IMHO.

I think there should be a mailing sent to CT from everybody to indicate each individuals feelings and even quoting this thread.
I do not believe anyone has said anything out of order, just stated facts. With many useful thoughts and suggestions as to how the paper would benefit the foreign community better.

We have bought it bi-weekly but no more. This is a ridiculous increase and I may even stop buying it altogether as a protest.
It is full of drivel anyway. Lots more news online.

On the contrary Royalcorp., the Aussies would have done something about it long ago and asking why we have been so tolerant of being served up what we have.
Whinging is what it is, on this occasion we are all making constructive critisism in order for the owners of CT do do something positive before their business sinks down the pan, totally. We want a community newspaper like CT used to be 7 years ago not the social nonesense it has become with news that most of us read several days previously.

Well said Cyprusishome, I do not usually get on the bandwagon but this is not whinging this is just saying enough is enough now, I am happy to pay 3 or 4Tl for a newspaper that is exactly that, providing me with NEWS, not silly dribble and trying to fill gabs with photos of people doing the same thing week in, week out.
