I know this is a regular enquiry here, but what do I need to renew my drivers licence this.week? It seems to change fairly regularly and I don't want to go there and queue up only to be told I don't have x, y or z.

To be honest, I use my insurance man to do this for me so apart from a couple of photo's and the old license (plus money) I can't remember what it is you need. However, to try to avoid the next change in the new law system, could I suggest that you renew for 10 years this time!!

This section makes no mention of fotos?

We went in last week as ours are due shortly and I wrote down what you need it is as follows.

Form, which can be picked up from counter top
Two photos, make sure you get the ones for driving licence as there is a difference
Expired licence
Passport, plus photocopy of photo page

One year 165TL
Two year 240TL
Three year. 325TL
Five year. 490TL
Ten year. 815TL

These were the prices as of last week, although we all know things can change here.

The documentation required is the same as for the initial application above, with the additional requirement of the current or previous TRNC licence being required instead of the national driving licence. A Muhtars residency letter is also required whether or not there is a temporary residency stamp in the passport.

We were told Muhtar's letter no longer required unless it is your first application.

Can anyone clarify whether I need a Muhtars letter or not?

I renewed mine recently,didn't need Mujtars letter then. Just read link,says Muhtars letter is required for renewal. Pretty sure I didn't need one though.

Just renewed mine for 10 years. 815 tl. All that's needed is completed application which you can get from the Kaymakamlik place. It is in English and tells you exactly what is needed. 2 photos, passport type. We used the same ones as we used in UK recently for new passports. Then you need copies of your passport photo and details pages, plus a copy of your latest residency stamp...no need for Muhtars letter, and that's it. Wait 2 weeks, but we waited three, and go and collect it from the little desk opposite where you renew your car tax. All very simple and efficient.

Thanks for that but are the photos needed a particular type for drivers licence, not passport type?

Get photos done at photography shop just down from HSBC. Tell them for license. They then use correct background & cut to correct size about 25TL

I had photos taken at the shop mentioned 3 years ago, so still had a supply as I think you get about 20 or so. But, as the passport ones I had from UK were more up to date, I used those, I just cut the edges off so they were the same size as the ones I had from the shop. No problem.

What do they do at passport control do about women who wear a full hijab? BYGOOO - If you can only see their eyes what is the point of a photo?

Groucho, I have seen this quite often in Turkey, at passport control they make them lift the veil so their face is visible to the officer.
