I know that smart phones have to be registered, but if you are in holiday here, are you able to get your phone unblocked for the holiday week please?

If you are on contract in the uk I would not advise it, you can use your phone for 90 days before you need to register it.

I've been here for three years with my UK contract phone (EE) it's on a minimum contract £18 pcm, No problem at all.

I use a cheap PAYG phone for local calls.

Thanks for replies. My phone is iPhone 6s PAYG with three, works always in the south upon arrival, so settings are ok. I have a local sim and old phone to use. I just wondered if this is a problem with people on holiday! It didn't work in Oct, Jan, May hols here and now!

It maybe more to do with the type of contract & network. I have a PAYG on EE and it doesn't work in TRNC. I was advised to buy an international roaming add on. My work phone on vodaphone contract works fine.

Perhaps even more with network rather than contract; I have PAYG with Vodafone, and I have no problems whatsoever in TRNC....
