During this "warm" weather I have been running my a/c on "Fan Only". This is marked on the remote controller as a small propeller and runs the indoor unit fan on its own without running the cooling system. The control of the fan speed is also on the remote.
In this way we can have doors and windows open and the a/c running on very little electricity.

Is that cheaper than having ordinary fans on then? We have 4 or 5 of those, plus fans on the ceilings. Rarely have a/c on in the summer. Don't like them.

Depends on the size of the fan and the a/c unit. Bigger units have bigger fans,

Many of the modern fans are lightweight (cheap and nasty ) , but they do the job. Some of them now are as low as 30 watts. I am not sure but I would think aircon fan is a heavier wattage.

Vaughan could probably confirm Air con wattage dependant on machine. But if you have old style aircon units then definitely heavier KW.

We used 2 fans for 8 years every night of the week in the hot season. The plastic has disintegrated before the motors. remember the guy saying they are only guaranteed 3 months and they cost in those days the grand sum of 30 tl each.

But you can still buy lightweight low wattage for as little as 70 tl.
