When you say a 'mishap' do you mean that the floor came into contact with an acidic substance?

If so, what?

How long was it left in contact with the floor before being washed off?

Does the surface feel rough (compared to the 'good' part of the floor)?

It may be just the sealant that's been stripped off the surface, if the floor was sealed in the first place - if so, then a coat of sealant should be all that is required. One of the Marble / Granite suppliers should be able to advise on a suitable product, such as an acrylic sealant. Follow the instructions on the container carefully. SIBA, the pool supplies Company, also stocks a range of floor maintenance products.

If the surface was not sealed, then the marble itself may have been etched away slightly, this needs to be ground / polished with a specialised tool - usually a series of diamond-impregnated 'ScotchBrite' pads in varying degrees of abrasion, working in ever-widening circles so as not to leave a discernable 'dip' in the floor. The polished surface is then impregnated with a special sealant. This is not a DIY job! You are likely to make it look a lot worse if you attempt it...

If the floor was not sealed, then it's a good idea to have it done while you're at it - it makes the job a lot easier the next time!

I would recommend 'Dave' on 0542 850 7901. You'll need to have the kettle on - he likes a cup of coffee

Thanks for that Keith we have no idea whether the marble was actually sealed or not although we did pay for the marble to be polished when first purchased.

Probably best to play safe then - marble is a rather expensive item to mess up!

Apart from Dave of course, if you know which supplier your builder used, they will also be capable of restoring the surface...
