Just wondering if the regular delays out of Heathrow on TK1980 Have any effect on the connecting flight to Ercan? Or does Turkish airways just delay the second flight to match?
Only asking as ive noticed the first flight can usually catch up a 1hr delay but just recently the delays have been 1hr 30mins and some times 2hrs.
Cheers for any replies.

Very unlikely is the answer. I have had six missed connections in both directions. It is a total waste of time seeking compensation from TA. My last delay eighteen months ago was twelve hours holed up in IST waiting for a flight to LHR after a missed connection from ECN. Thank goodness I had an HSBC card allowing me to use the HSBC lounge at IST.
I now fly into either LCA or PFO with BA or EasyJet. Brilliant service with either carrier and no missed connections.

By law TK must compensate you for a 12hr delay. Check the CAA website

I am no expert. However, my understanding on airline compensation within the EU is the airline and flight must be EU-based/originated. Turkish Airlines (TA) and Ercan are, clearly, neither. No doubt somebody will know the definite and, hopefully, post it. The LHR delays pose an interesting point of law for a consumer protection expert.
I flew TA from BHX to ECN via ATK earlier this year. Late aircraft arrival, missed flight slot and delayed start, massive delays on the tarmac at ATK, huge queues at clearance = missed ECN connection. TA, after 3 hours wait and at 0330 took us to a hotel 1/2 hour away. Given a room, you'll be collected in 1 1/2 hours for return to airport. Fortunately, I had a valid visa for Turkey, else more queuing and expense. No compensation!

tomsteel you are correct.
TA is not a EU based airline.
If you book a TA return flight UK to ECN and you suffer a delay. You are entitled to compensation under the EU ruling as the flight originated in the EU.
When returning to the UK from ECN to the UK and you suffer a delay. You are not entitled to compensation as the flight did not originate in the EU.
If the UK leaves the EU (if it does)? Air travel from the UK will certainly be a bag of worms regarding delays etc.
