It Was A Woman.
The commander of the Turkish stars this year was lady in Jet 3. Fantastic.
But I hear she had a spot of bother trying to reverse park it at Ercan. and before the lets have a pop at J.L. mob appear the comment is lighthearted.

Turkey has a long history in this regards, with one of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's adopted daughters holding the Guinness World Record for being the first female fighter pilot in the world to be enrolled in a military aviation academy (in 1936).

My point is Sophie that I was surprised to see a lady flying one of those beasts. Especially being the commander. Like I said my post was jovial and your point is Sophie ????

Interesting article thank you Erol. I did read about the Lady left hand seat who flies for Pegausus and that when she landed her plane in certain countries ground crew were amazed.

I wonder if they fly to Saudi Arabia! - Women aren't even allowed to drive there, so she'd probably have to get a man to drive the 'plane on the ground to the parking area to avoid being arrestedJohnny Lee wrote:Interesting article thank you Erol. I flew for many years. My future husband (Commercial airline pilot) to be at the time, when we met, said 'Oh I hear that you are involved in aviation? which airline are you a trolley dolley for?' Annoyed, I replied 'front left hand seat', I should have handbagged him! but we have been together for over 20 years! So this was all a long time ago!

Major Esra Ozatay is the name of the pilot. She is the first female squadron commander in the history of the Turkish airforce especially as she was appointed as the commander of the Turkish Stars.
Major Ozatay is also married and the mother of two children.

Thank you Sarikiz. I did read it on facebook, but wasn't sure if it was true, (you know fb ).
Truly amazing and what an achievement? What I'd give to sit along side her, or, of course, solo Turk !!!!!

Is it not a shame that today in 2017, some 81 years after the first woman became a Turkish Military fighter jet pilot, that it is still of 'note and interest' that a female is leading the Solo Turk team ? How much better a place world the world be today if the fact that the leader of Solo Turk display team happened to be female and not male was of no more interest or note than if they happened to have a moustache or not, or happened to be born in the first half of the year and not the second or not ?Johnny Lee wrote:kibsolar, why shouldn't it be a post , it is of interest to some people ??

Well done that woman she puts the rest of us to shame.
Maybe they do not want to put her in combat situations in case she gets captured.
Which Middle East country had a female fighter pilot, I think she was a member of their royal family afraid memory is non existent these days?

I think it would have little relevance in making the world a better place. I think getting rid of nuclear arms, ending wars, ending starvation. curing terminally ill youngsters and children. etc. etc. etc. I think this would make the world a better place.
Also people lightening up and learning to laugh at jovial comments and getting rid of some of the ridiculous P.C. this may also help.
Hope you all have a lovely Sunday.

Re: It Was A Woman.
JL,
In 2017 it should simply not worth to post or even mention that a woman is doing a “mens job”.
And if, then at least withstand your own opinions, prejudices or feelings and do not make unnecessary, discriminating comments against, here: woman…. with the addendum that these comments are “light hearted”.
Your comments are not light hearted and not “jovial” at all.
Your comments are simply terrible, “on the merits and to the extent” malicious and nothing to laugh about; even if the person you discriminate never will read them..
i know.. this „gender and political correctness stuff” is all a bit complicated for many, eg, members post the info that she is married and has two children. Interesting, she also has black hairs.
Imagine… she would be unmarried, promiscuous or even polygam as surely many of her male combats are , but where it is not worth it to mention anything about it as long they do their job. would she be a pilot? anyway.
I could add: especially white, elderly males from Britain seem to have some difficulties to understand the basics of modern times.… = I reduced you to your “race” & origin, sex and age. Even if you may give a sh** about it… this is only another indication that you are most probably a white, elderly male from Britain ……
So ,here: if, if you feel discriminated.. my (light hearted) apologies. Have a laugh.
And before YOU try to write apologies or “ to bring the subject into another (light hearted) context”, I take a copy from another forum member, just recently made....
“ ….I do not accept the apology because you knew exactly what you was doing and saying. .....and I repeat, you knew exactly what you were doing and saying...”

I am a woman and I wasn't offended in the least. I didn't know we had a female squadron leader so yes, the post was interesting to me, and as for the humour regarding parking at Ercan, it was just that, humour, and old humour at that. No harm done.

Another female here who was very interested to read that a woman has made it into such a position in the very male dominated world of Turkish aviation. Maybe in a few years the whole team will be female.

Re: It Was A Woman.
Of course it can be interesting “….that a woman has made it into such a position in the very male dominated world of...” .... anywhere.
When last time you called a plumber and a woman showed up ? When your car, your aircon was repaired by a woman? Especially in Cyprus the situation is very bad.
Well, yes, maybe humankind (...formerly mankind, manhood , but never was called womankind) will be wiped out by females.. also not a nice imagination....
That many woman are not offended by old or new, but still shabby, discriminating jokes, only shows that they are “...used to being the butt of jokes...”... and often are just tired and have given up...
that they have on top the opinion that some of these jokes are “...very funny - IMHO of course” is funny itself.
ozankoys, please post one blonde joke which you consider to be funny.
Then, we replace words ..... blond with black, and especially she-her with he-him and then tell me which difference(s) make the original joke more funnier as the new one.
Or.. we quit the hair colour... but replace she- her with eg, indian, pakistani, mexican or any other “different from white (and english) ” race or origin.. and uh.. the joke “remains funny”..
Now i feel better.

Re: It Was A Woman.
I remember someone at my workplace in the UK making the comment that : "Women will only have achieved true equality when mediocre women occupy top positions" The point being that exceptional women will always be high achievers, but that otherwise, the top positions are still going to men regardless of ability.
I think the this applies here, although I do wonder how many women really want to be a Jet fighter pilot! Did I not read recently of a woman being admitted to one of the top British Guards regiments, and another Captain of a fighting ship?
Similar applies to racial discrimination : a coloured person or one from an undervalued ethnic minority can get to a high and powerful position - history and current events have lots of examples - but those or ordinary ability will still be unable to compete with "Wasps" of similar or lesser ability.
Only when people are appointed to positions on the basis of true ability regardless of gender, race or even age and it is not a matter for comment will true equality obtain.

No I am not an elderly white male from Britain. I am a too young for my pension, slightly brown man from England. I noticed also that you printed a section from another topic, where someone was dictating to me and telling me what I had done , even though I know different. Must Fly ha. ha.

Re: It Was A Woman.
Oh no, i will not go into that trap... iam not an angry person in general.
These jokes make me angry, and sometimes, on a hot sunday, i can not stand that these jokes are told and then "belittled" (to be jovial, honestly... ).
İn 2017, you can think this “kind of humour” , but neither speak it out nor write it down, it has been too often thought, spoken out and written down. these times are, should be, over.
These jokes often generally questioning brain functions and – or the sexual behaviour because of the sex, race, origin or, eg, womans hair colour.
İf someone finds this funny, ok.
But when i say : “...That many woman are .... often .. just tired and have given up...” , I meant:
Many woman are tired to listen to this rubbish 100, 1000 times during their life and are tired to oppose them all the time. So, they better give up and laugh a bit, for the sake of social peace... in other words: they do not want to f*** up every party they visit, because of a bad joke, even if they are heavily offended.
These jokes have a “function” and are not "just humour". Usually invented by men, they want to keep “all others small”, belittle them , make them “shut up” (see above, the woman which have given up) and, by telling theses jokes again and again, bring and keep those thoughts deeply into our society.
when these jokes considered to be funny even by the victims... mission achieved.
when the victims start to tell them to others themselfes... perfect.
The victims feel offended by people who try to support them... fantastic, bombastic.
Too complicated for this hot wheather, hmm (?)... but true.
i would like to add to this,
“.... Only when people are appointed to positions on the basis of true ability regardless of gender, race or even age and it is not a matter for comment will true equality obtain.... “
that a society must give these “underrepresented parts” a fair chance to achieve these true abilities. İf you can not get an education, you will never achieve true abilities, so, you can not be appointed to anything. And this is the case.. this society still is made for (white) men.
Woman into top positions?.. only if men want.
Or do you believe that Sabiha Gökcen could have made it into turkish aviation if she would not have been the child of Kemal Atatürk?
Meanwhile.... sad news.
Maryam Mirzakhani, math genius, only woman and only Iranian who ever received the Fields Medal ( for "the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces"), passed away at 40.
what a loss.

How sad that people can't laugh at themselves. I was a career man , but I never objected to any one making a jovial comment about me or men in general.
Some people need to realise a joke is a joke. I think you'll find that they don't actually reverse park Jets and I am pretty damn certain that they don't have indicators.

Actually Saudi has a female pilot, and she parks her own aircraft. unfortunately she is unable due to laws to drive a car, they allowed her to fly planes. good on her.

in this day and age any job regardless of where in the world should have no limitations on who fulfils the role, too much discrimination going on saying men can't be this or that, ladies can't do this or that. rubbish. if someone is capable of doing a job then go for it. plenty female construction workers, and plenty male beauticians and nurses. times have changed and for the better i say!

I agree with the above. I can not help but wonder, somewhat mischievously, if your user name on here ismermaidsexist wrote:in this day and age any job regardless of where in the world should have no limitations on who fulfils the role, too much discrimination going on saying men can't be this or that, ladies can't do this or that. rubbish. if someone is capable of doing a job then go for it. plenty female construction workers, and plenty male beauticians and nurses. times have changed and for the better i say!

Re: It Was A Woman.
Sorry to be pedantic but if you read the article again you will see the all female crew flew with Royal Brunei Airlines. The women are from Brunei not Saudi Arabia. It takes nothing away and as females they still cannot drive in Saudi.
I also agree with your sentiments but we are a very long way from total equality.
I hope your user name is " mermaids exist " because its really cool.
By the way JL when I read your posts "Life on Mars" comes to mind. All very droll

That's fine Sarkiz, probably best you don't read my posts in future then. I remember a young girl who worked for me Asking if me I knew why God invented men ?
I found it really funny and was not offended in the slightest.
