Lost dog Karakum - ON WAY BACK TO GIRNE!!

Please help has any one seen this small female wired haired dog. She was taken from Girne Café George by the Belediyesi last Wednesday to be neutered.
Sadly she has been returned to the Karakum area on Friday away from the area and everyone she knows. We think she was left around Pet Kingdom area.
She was being looked after by a local. She must be so stressed and never had to search for food and water so will struggle to survive.
She is very friendly and called Silly (not sure of the spelling) Please call 0533 860 0357
Picture not great but will give you an idea
Thanks for reading.

The attachment silly.jpg is no longer available
This girl was taken by the girne council to be neutered, unfortunate she wasn't bought back to town but taken to Karakum an area she is not familiar with.
She has someone who looks after her in town. Please keep an eye out. She'll have a new blue tag in her ear. Call me on 05338709222

Thank you so much - the belediyesi didn't know she had an owner and was well fed and watered around Café George ... which she has known all her life...
Its good they are neutering but not to return to same place is a disaster... apparently she was put back on street same day as operation
Its going to be difficult for her to get in with another pack of dogs.
I would imagine early morning and evening would be best time to see what dogs are around.,,,

Just a thought - having personally spent a great deal of time looking for 'lost' cats and dogs...
As the prevailing wind is from the West, she should be able to detect scents from the area with which she is familiar, and terrain allowing, 'follow her nose' back to the Town Centre.
From Ayçiçek Sokak, she may have gone down into the ravine, but if she followed the ravine downhill towards the sea, she would be able to get back onto Ayçiçek Sokak, givıng her the choice of either following the tarmac back up to the main road, or heading West 'cross country'.
I would be inclined to concentrate the search based on those two parameters.
Good luck!

I think you met yourself coming backwards there Keith!
There are so many directional possibilities in that area, I think as she is used to noise & traffic she would have gone towards the main road if she was strong enough after a period of no food or water.
It is a disgrace that she was not kept in at least overnight after her op.

Yes, I know!
I do still think that the likelihood is that the prevailing Westerly wind will lead her to head back towards Town - one way or another!

Thank you for your comments - it was posted on Kibris Hayvan yesterday - that the dog was spotted in the harbour - not sure the google translate works well.
The harbour was checked this morning and no sign sadly...les hope she has made her way back.
Posters have been put up as well

Husband looked along main road from town, drove round Acicek area & also Erdeners I am going out later so will check new hospital/university.
Quite a long walk to have reached the harbour but let's hope the sighting was genuine.

It is unfortunate, but the Belediye have no facilities to let a speyed or neutered animal rest and recuperate even for 24 hours and they are put back on the streets within a very short time. I would love someone to put me right if I am wrong!!

They are presumably using a vet to do the neutering (I hope) some of them do have overnight facilities but I suppose the cost precludes it.

Yes the Belediyesi are using Pet Kingdom at the moment - just don't know why they don't understand how important it is to drop dog back to where it was picked up.
We believe the dog was neutered and put back on street same day - the Thursday was a bank holiday

Poor little girl must be difficult to survive in this intense heat I looked round the new university/hospital & also round back of Credit West in case she had gone East. The ravine next to the hospital would be a great place for a dog to hide but unfortunately I could not go far into it as I was on my own & not suitably dressed.
The posters are a brilliant idea I saw a few in my travels.
Let's all hope for a miracle!

Still no sightings - more posters have been put up.
She will have a blue tag in her ear now as well - but she isn't a stray.

The dog is at Elexus hotel together with a small black girls ne I was not sure on Wednesday night as I thought it had a black large spot on its tail and a red tag. But it's definitely the dog well fed and now it know why it was so friendly with Susanne and myself as we always stroked it in George's and whiskers.

Glad to have helped just shows always have a couple of pictures of the dog and everyone be alert. Well done the beladiye for dumping her miles away from where they picked her up. Some people are against dogs but George and most of his punters seem OK to have a couple around.

That is fantastic news, if only she was wearing a head cam as it is a bit of a mystery as to how she got to the Elexus - she must have caught a bus!
Well done Terry

It may of appeared to some people that this is an owned dog, sadly she isn't. She hangs around the harbour area where somebody does feed her or goes up to George's where she also gets fed, Silly is not your usual starving dog but well known & loved.
The Belediyese are on a neutering programme which is supposed to involve TNR tag, neuter, return, however this didn't happen & when concerned people realised we all rallied round, making posters & searching initially where we were informed she had been released, Karakum area. This was done the same day as her surgery, a very compassionate vet, we don't think she had any parasite treatment as she was covered in ticks, all sorted now & a paraband collar put on.
How she got to the Elexus, who knows, head cam might have given us a clue.

Thanks Cally good summary - , the head cam would have showed the lies.... everyone has been searching in the wrong area for days sadly wasting time
I thought this post could have been closed off - but sadly her little black friend who Terry quite rightly point out were inseparably wasn't seen at the time Silly was picked up.
She I believe is also a Café George dog - not as long as Silly as she is very young but for her now to be on her own near Elexus is wrong.

I have read all of the above and am delighted to learn the dog is back where it considers is its home. What I fail to read is the huge amount of time, energy and not an inconsiderate amount of money spent by KAR. A lot of which would have been unnecessary had not people not hit the Forums giving out misinformation (albeit innocently) Behind the scenes KAR was liaising with the correct people, obtaining the correct information and liaising with the hotel as to whether it was the correct dog!!! It is too easy for people to be "absolutely sure its the same dog" when in reality tags are different colour, dogs different colour and so is the size. The KAR dog warden looked all over the Elexus site, but was informed it only appeared in the morning and evening. So another visit was necessary.
It is too easy to lambast the Girne Belediye, but animal welfare is new to this island (as anyone who has lived here for a good few years will agree) and it hasn't come naturally to them. They want to get things right and its taking time, longer than most would wish. Endless phone calls, demanding this, that and the other, DO NOT WORK, especially when their natural language is not ours!!!

Well said Sophie. All too often people are quick to criticize KAR but often do not realise what is going on behind the scenes and the amount of man hours and money that can be wasted due to incorrect information being given to them or not given at all !!! Another example in this case is the "other dog" the black one that went missing with Silli. If KAR had been told that it was Silli and the black dog that were missing then enquiries about the black one would have been made, with Elexus staff and others, and it could have been collected at the same time as Silli - now it will take more liaison to try and get them to keep the black dog when/if it reappears and then another trip out for the KAR community warden to collect it and return it to Girne to be back with Silli. But who will get the credit ? --- I doubt it will be KAR but there will be others who will bang their own drum, pat themselves on the back and claim the credit !!!

I am Catherine Wood on fb & I support KAR & many other animal groups. I am sadly disappointed at the response from messages 35 & 36. If KAR were following the plight of these 2 dogs, I have checked there were no posts on their fb page, and am intrigued how other people could be wasting their time, if they had no idea KAR were involved. The time wasted appears to be over the last few of days after Terry had identified Silly at the Elexus, ( a week after being picked up) & after seeing his message I passed the information to the people involved in the search for the dogs.
I would like to ask if KAR were involved from Wednesday 19th when Silly was removed from Kyrenia & taken for neutering. I know all the people that were, & they very concerned when she wasn't around & tried to find out where she had been returned to. They knew Thursday was a bank holiday and were making phone calls to people they knew were involved with the dogs at the Belediyese on the Friday. They were told different stories as to her whereabouts.
Using forums & any other media outlet is a good way of reaching people to help in the search of this dog(s). Posters were put up in the Karakum area as this was where they were told Silly had been released. The only time we knew KAR were involved was when Yulian picked up Silly & returned her to Kyrenia, where she was found to be covered in ticks.

Could I suggest that ALL parties involved - i.e. Girne Belediyesi, KAR, and the volunteer groups, could all learn from the way that this situation developed?
It seems to me that all of the parties were either blissfully unaware, or simply ignored the efforts that others were putting into the effort to relocate the animal in question.
I don't think that it is helpful to start 'finger pointing' and apportioning 'blame' - rather, I think that it is a time to re-assess what happened, and try to work out what could have been done better - by everyone!
If all of those involved could take the time to reflect on how things 'could have gone', using that marvellous tool called 'Hindsight' and take the time and effort to start a dialogue with all of the other relevant organisations, then perhaps we could witness an altogether different scenario in the future.
I know that all concerned have, as a primary motivating force, a love of animals, and a concern for their welfare - just hold on to that thought!

Thanks Keith - what it gave me was vertigo! Actually I had already woken up and looked it up on Google., and been watching horse riders (more my type of sport) using them to get evidence about dangerous drivers. Seems such a pity it is needed! But the comment that the public highway is for ALL users, horses, pedestrians, dog walkers etc. might be taken on board by drivers here.
I am not quite sure about the comment here about using them to locate lost dogs however. Was it a joke, or meant serously ? The enforced chipping of dogs put an unreasonable strain on the resources of those who adopt strays, "head cams" would be the last resort!
Anyway who wants close ups of the inside of dustbins, the private parts of dogs, something nasty on the pavement and possibly the rear view of a cat beating a hasty retreat!!!!

Thank you Keith, I to in my time of supporting animal welfare in N Cyprus do my utmost to be impartial & wish whole heartedly we "animal lovers" could all work together.
I have an advocate that visits here frequently who is convinced I am the one to bring everyone together, if only.........
ps Keith I will leave the thrill riding to those of more steely dispositions

RR I will explain to you in words of as few syllables as possible.
Dogs cannot talk so Silly cannot say how she arrived at the Elexus
If she had been wearing a headcam a film would have been taken of her journey
It was meant as a joke
