Alsancak belidiye - ground-level water tanks

I am off-island at the moment, and I've been told that Alsancak belidiye is removing all the ground-level water tanks because of 'corrosion issues'.
Does anyone know if this is true? Aren't people's water tanks their private property?
If all the tanks are being removed by the belidiye, no one will be able to order water from tankers. During water cuts, what happens after people's roof tanks run out of water?

People explaining why a tank has been removed from a flat. Said the belidiye was removing all the tanks. Just trying to verify if this is indeed the case. I am off-island and so cannot check with neighbours etc. Thanks.

Could very well have been just one tank that had sprung a leak. I 've always said that TRNC is the rumour capital of the world Alancak being the top of the heap.
