Could someone please fill me in on what this is, we saw that temporary stalls had been erected in the village centre yesterday and there are signs about it on the lampposts. I understand Deniz means it's connected to the sea?

It is a 4 day village festival and although it is called a Sea Festival the only links to the sea are an Albacore fishing contest, a beach swimming contest and this year the festival is honoring a Captain Efdal Safel (who ever he is or was).

Captain Efdal Safel is the GAU principal of Maritime and Navigation. Could it be him?

The Alsancak Sea Festival got off to a great start last night with a procession, opening speeches, folk dancing and a light show.
Tonight there is a darts tournament at Baroosh bar.
In the main square there will be a variety of entertainment including latin and line dancing as well as the Spring Fairies dance academy
The stalls sell food, candy floss ,drinks etc
The entertainment is scheduled to start at 8.30pm

Attended the festival yesterday - great crowd, very colourful, lots of stalls selling a wide range of items: Shoes, Jewellery, Hand made woodcrafts, Art work (I bought a lovely lamp last year made from some kind of plant). Sewing items, balloons, toys, etc etc etc (Lots of food and treats). Also found that we met lots of your friends who you haven't seen in a long time, and made new ones. It is great to see all ages enjoying themselves together and just having fun!!!!

DEDEM is a new restaurant, bar and kebab house in the centre of Alsancak village. Well worth a visit with excellent local food at very reasonable prices. It is run by Dave a British expat and Ally whose family have nearly forty years experience in the restaurant business. Give them a try if you are visiting the Alsancak Festival which is on until this Sunday night.
