The story of the three GC police officers trying to arrest the young man in Akıncılar is still fresh in our memories. Most of us agreed the police action was both foolish and wrong. But what was the young man doing southside in the first place?

In this report http://www.gundemkibris.com/bu-sefer-pa ... 41444h.htm it states that smuggling is not uncommon in that region - it would appear TCs there quite often cross this apparently easily permeable "border".

The report says that on Tuesday morning at 6am, 40-year-old Şener Kunda was caught by TC authorities trying to smuggle eight large barrels of "burned machine oil" from the south. He was remanded in custody awaiting trial. Apparently it is not the first time that Kunda has been caught smuggling

Well, I know there are companies in KKTC who collect used cooking oil from restaurants, recycle it and use it as a fuel. Clearly if the oil was being used for this purpose, then Kunda's actions wouldn't be condemned by environmentalists.

It is also clear that Kunda was not making that much financial gain for all his efforts.

But the fact remains that TCs (and perhaps GCs) are crossing the "border" in that region around Akıncılar easily and often.
