Yep, this morning both me and my friend had missed calls on our mobiles from Algeria. Just delete them because if you ring back, your credits will instantly disappear into the either. Even worse, if your phone is connected to the internet, you could lose a whole lot more

Your phone may recognise the first three digits as a particular country code - I had one which was flagged as + (i.e. the international dialling prefix) 318, which is Serbia, and + 213 which is Algeria.
I think the scam is mainly aimed at the US where people read what we see as the country code in the above examples (318 and 213) and presume that it's a US area code: 318=Louisiana; 213=California.
They then return the call thinking they've missed a genuine one and, as the previous poster said, you can end up paying for premium international phone calls which can cost a fortune.
Since the scam is crude they just take batches of phone numbers which they've lifted (probably from the internet like spammed email addresses) and call all of them regardless of where they are.
See here https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/one-ring-wireless-phone-scam for more information.
Hope this helps.

Had one from Morocco yesterday as well as myself and hubby receiving them from Algeria this morning, normally in the early hours. The phone only rings once or twice which is why people are likely to call back. I never accept any calls, nor call any numbers back that are not already logged on my phone as contacts. I take the view that if it is genuine they will keep trying.

Yes I have had several from Algeria, it rings for about two seconds not enough time for you to answer it. Check the internet for the area code which is the first 3 digits and do not ring back
