You can go to Duty free when you land in Turkey 1litre of Whiskey was £17 at Izmir I guess it is cheaper to buy at Ercan.

I never buy 'duty free' at any airport, and here is is normally cheaper if you get it in the local supermarket and then pack it in your case. So called duty free at airports is a rip off.

mrsgee, how right you are!

Items may be 'Duty free', but they're certainly not 'Profit free' !!

We get duty free at Manchester airport when travelling to Turkey it's very expensive to buy there £11 for 1/2 bottle whiskey ok if you go through duty free on landing about £17 litre, in the resteraunts imported drinks are 40 or as much as 50 tl. Effes 50cl 13 and 15 tl. In UK supermarket 50cl Effes £1.29.

Definitely buy alcohol here and pack in your suitcase, approx £2-3 a litre cheaper but may be slightly less now that the exchange rate has dropped. Cigarettes however are cheaper at Ercan @ 24€ per 200.
Incidentally Efes at Istanbul Ataturk last week was 22tl for 50cl so needless to say I stuck with my water!
