Our residency is due in a few weeks time. However, now we are both over 60 are contemplating not doing it.
Our problem is that we have a UK trip booked for February. We don't ever go to the South so by the time of our trip we will not have any stamps in our passports. Are we likely to have a problem on leaving or when we return or in view of our ages no problem at all.
Would be pleased if any one has been in the same situation and knows the answer. Many thanks.

Hi Boerboel, I was in a similar situation the first time i went out of the country after not renewing my residency after i turned 60. I had and never have had, a problem at the border. They might question why the residency has lapsed, but just ask them to check your date of birth in the passport and you will be fine. I even got a suprised look from the lady on duty the first time and she said ' well you dont look 60 ' it made my day.

We do go South but this has never counted for your 90 days anyway. We have not renewed our residency for about 5 years now & it has only been queried a couple of times, we just say 'over 60 ok' & they always say 'yes'

I have no residency and have never had a problem, either going south or leaving from Ercan. They have occasionally asked me why I don't have residency and I direct them to my date of birth on my passport! They normally laugh and say sorry!

Many thanks for the helpful replies. We were worried we might be given a big fine for being an 'illegal immigrant' but seems like that won't be the case as we are oldies!!

At whose discretion? - The Government's? Yes, undoubtedly. The individual immigration official's? Probably not (although they probably wouldn't let that stop 'em )

Boerbell. Forgive me, but this topic must have been raised a thousand times on various forums during our nine plus years here. Opinions are like human's behinds - everybody has one. Answers have ranged from the legality of vehicle insurance, driving licences et al. The BRS has recently updated its advice on the subject having discussed this issue with the Immigration Department. Fundamentally, and has been stated many times, the decision, as an adult, is yours to make. I wish you well whatever choice you make. Pedantically, there is no 'residency, temporary or permanent'. You'll get a "visitor" written comment in your passport should you elect to go down this route.
