My daughter is going to have a caesaerean next month and she has been told to arrange for 2 donors to give blood .Her friends willing or that can give blood are A she is Orh +.
Any advise would be welcome or if anyone out there is a donor and can oblige would be very grateful

May I ask what happens to the blood if not used.........presumably to someone else which I have no problem with, but being a blood donor for over 40 years this is the first time I have come across the practice.

Cally, if you have been donating for that long, you'll know fresh blood has a finite shelf life. If it cannot be used within that timeframe, it is destroyed. I assume your donations have all been in 'civilised' western Europe or other medically sophisticated countries. Welcome to the 3rd world!

If you donate blood here they ask you if its in anyones name or a general donation, I was under the impression they dont save your donation specifically for your named person, but off set it against any future need of the patient .

Tomsteel, strangely my first donation was at BMH Dhekelia in 1973, but since then in "civilised" countries. I donate still & am proud to do so, saying that I would not be allowed to in TRNC.

My daughter had an emergency caesarean and luckily she didnt need blood .
