Groucho, I don't have any olives, but I can understand you wanting a sensible reply!! I would have thought the factory waited until they thought sufficient olives had been picked before firing up, as it were. Is there a number or contact name on the outside of the Karaoglanoglu factory, that you can contact? Just a thought.

Groucho, it's the District Officer who declares the Harvest date (Shades of the Raj!) - so if you want a definitive answer, then ring him and ask him - there's no point in mithering on on a Forum because none of us know!
We would have told you if we did know, Honest!
As far as members' opinions go, I suspect that 'Waterline' is probably as good as you'll get

I was hoping someone had already found out and could share it with us... We don't live anywhere near an olive press so are unlikely to spot it in operation.
However. once I do know I will keep it strictly mum - after all, board members can't share information because we all have individually to ring the District Officer whoever that may be - never heard of such a person.

Will tell you all about District Officers - except their phone number You might start with the Girne Belediye
Zetinlik is advertising its Olive Festival as starting 6th October, so I assume (?) the harvest must be before then?

Thanks RR - he's just being curmudgeonly, which he tries to present as his normal state, except that I know him better!

Ok ok don't go on or I'll be as mad as a March hare in a vest. I remember listening to a radio DJ a few months ago going on and on to a phone in guy who couldn't get his brought and bought sorted out. He was so awful it was embarrassing (the DJ that is). We've had rain in Arapkoy my olives look good so I'll probably do my fist pick and salt them down.

All picked - 80 kilos! A very good year... I reckon somewhere between 10 and 16 litres of top grade organic (nobody sprays anything on our trees) olive oil will result... that should last us a wee while.

One large (needs a severe pollarding but produced 50% of the yield - and probably still has 40k left on it too high up ) one medium sized tree and two small ones we got free from a tree planting initiative 12 years ago which are a superb high yield of large plump olives.

It must be happening soon because signs are out on the by-pass advertising the Olive Festival and directing people down the Zeytinlik road.
