Need some thoughts on a car import

Looking at bringing a car over next year. From a mileage point of view diesel would be good but this costs more than a petrol in road tax. Does anyone have access to the road tax charges please. I am going to discuss import charges separately with an agent but would like an idea of road tax.

As the tax is dependent on the vehicle's weight and engine capacity, I think that you would need to quote the 'specifics' before anyone could even start to assist you. Owners of similar vehicles might be willing to let you know how much they pay.
Having said that, I'm sure that the Motor Tax office would be able to give you a precise figure if no one on here has a vehicle which is similar sized / engine capacity.
As you are no doubt aware, there are also discounts for the vehicle's age, and 'lack of traffic offences' - but these only apply from date of first registration in TRNC, so are not likely to have an immediate impact, but you would need to consider whether any vehicles belonging to forum members were already benefiting from such discounts...

Within 10 years car ownership will be non existent ( not entirely relevant but interesting all the same!)

Sounds like you don't yet own the car you may import. It needs to be less than 5. years old if your not the original owner.

If your name is not on the log book when it comes in you have to pay the taxes immediately before taking it out of the port. You then have to have a Cypriot guarantor which is written on the registration document - or at least we did when we imported about 4 years ago.

There will be cars - but no car ownership.

Bite the import tax bullet and buy it here. I can recommend Tiga Traders in Lefkosa.
