"Protocol signed to install 544 CCTV cameras in TRNC
29 September 2017
He added that “the installation of the cameras and the security system has become inevitable as there are people from more than 134 countries residing in the TRNC, either for work or study purposes”.
Are these cameras really necessary and if so, is it because the TRNC is no longer such a safe place to live because of the influx people from so many foreign countries as the article suggests?

If you are not breaking any laws then why worry about them anyway? They can only make things better in the long run and aid the police where required as well as traffic flow, work permit dodgers, etc, etc. I think the mention of 134 countries is just the excuse to be used - wonder what excuse they used for the mass of CCTV cameras in the UK?

Pity they don't fit them on the traffic lights and record all those ignoring the red light. Might save some lives.

If they are causing a problem why let them come here?

I think that the key word here is 'some', as in 'some of them'.
Should you punish the entire class because one pupil causes trouble ?

So this little corner of Paradise is becoming a fully paid up member of the global surveillance society. At least UK citizens, coming from the most spied on region on the planet will likely feel at home.I guess the "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" brigade will be o.k with that then, regardless of people`s right to privacy issues.

I'm not enamoured with the perceived necessity and subsequent increase in CCTV monitoring; I am concerned about and like my privacy - but I do wonder whether the multitudes are not making such increase easier, by destroying the arguments for privacy by their proliferation of selfies, blogs, social media networking, etc., in an attempt to (perhaps?) gain a second's attention from the world?

I always find it strange that people will not want an Identity Card because of peoples rights to privacy, yet they are happy to carry a Driving License complete with picture, all have a NI number, the vast majority use Facebook or some other social media invasion of privacy, when abroad they are happy to carry a passport as well - where is the problem with the ID card I wonder?
On the same theme people are disgusted with the amount of CCTV in use in this day and age, that would be the same Facebook users and those who happily have security cameras installed in and around their homes as well as dash cam's so they can catch offending drivers and have proof to support insurance claims - or would it?
Now we have a new brigade of the "Nothing to hide, Nothing to fear" people who will be chastised for not having Facebook or home/vehicle security - where will it all end? Don't know and won't be around - with luck - when it does all end but if you don't just go with the flow of technology then you, who will be around, will never find out. I just wonder - if there had been a Forum to discuss things on - what people said about the Internet when it first came about and did they all see it as an invasion of privacy as well?????
