Posted this earlier today but it has vanished and I can not find a trace of it anywhere - SO:

Has everyone who has booked for a flight/holiday with Monarch read the news today?

Let us see if this one fails as well.

It certainly was there earlier, waddo.

However there was also another thread started just before yours, complete with links, comments et al...

Perhaps your effort didn't 'Cut the Mustard'

Can't find anything on the first one Keith - maybe I gave too much information and the one with all the links was renamed as something else more interesting - because I can't find that either??? I claim old age and efes being the cause of my constant confusion - lol.

Keith - Found It! Well not mine but there is a number of posts on the subject now.

Obviously it has been moved and is now under the "Travel" heading. Where everyone who has booked a flight with Monarch for between now and let's say the end of April 2018 will be checking on a daily basis just in case something has happened to that company.

Hey ho.

Not surprised in the slightest,.. I have said before a terrible airline that were destined to fail.

Obviously a very personal opinion; an airline that has been operating for around 50 years, and in 2014 carried just over 7 million passengers (I would have been one of them!) - so, "... a terrible airline that were destined to fail..." ?
I used them 2011-2015 - and my personal opinion was that I was extremely disappointed when they ended their Manchester-Larnaca service....
Several of my friends have for many years (and up to the present) regularly used Monarch as their first choice....
Perhaps my (and their) demands and expectations are far lower than yours.....?

Jofra...nothing to do with my expectations and very much to do with getting what you pay for and customer services after the event ?
You only have to look at company reviews about Monarch to tell you all you need but unfortunately a lot of people are happy to be treated in shall we say the bovine way.....not me i'm afraid.

As one expert travel analyst said on TV yesterday "to some extent it was the travelling public themselves that were the demise of Monarch" demanding cheaper and cheaper fares. i.e. return from Birmingham to Larnaca next February 95 pound return. He said that many of the flights during 2016 would have actually been taking off, having made a loss each time and it just wasn't feasible to carry on. Monarch found themselves in a bidding war, they couldn't win.

Used to use the Manchester Larnaca service as well. I switched to Liverpool Larnaca with easyjet when it ended.
Both airlines have been good overall.

....and people knock me for flying THY to ECN.

Jonnie, I would never do that! Out of interest, my friend had just had his flight changed from UK to Istanbul from the 20th of Dec to the 21st of Dec. No big thing you say - wellllllll, actually it meant that he got into Istanbul 17 hours and 10 minutes AFTER his connecting flight to Ercan would have left!

He phone customer services and they offered to re-book him on different dates OR and this was a big surprise as he was travelling on the promo/economy ticket, they would cancel his flight and refund his payment!!!!! He cancelled and within 5 working days he received a full refund of the flight costs! Well done Turkish Airlines. You would think that was a perfect ending?

NO!!!

He then booked the same dates from UK to Larnaca with "Monarch" - ouch!!!!! Now, no flights and no refund for what will probably be months whilst HSBC drags their heels over refunds.

Should have stuck with Turkish!!!

Thank you SO much for your illuminating opinion of me (and millions of other people - I'm sure they will also appreciate your judgemental description - how about - for example - Thomas Cook passengers?).
I prefer to judge Monarch - and any other airline/company/whatever over time (~50 years?) rather than (understandably distraught customers over) the last couple of hours or days.....

Very sad news for the airline and the UK aviation industry. Thinking of travellers that have been inconvenienced but overall my thoughts go to the airline staff who were faced with this and now face uncertainty and frantically trying to find other airlines to work for or risk losing their homes etc. An old friend is or should i say was a first officer for Monarch, he said the crew have been inconsolable since the news broke and many have young families and mortgages.

Regardless of anyones thoughts on an airline and expectations, surely seeing a huge company that has been around as long as they have go under is very sad indeed.

Not just me jofra...read some of the reviews... http://www.airlinequality.com/airline-r ... es/page/3/
I feel very sorry for people who have been left high and dry but the writing has been on the wall for a good while imo ?

I have read page 3 (as specified in the link) of the reviews, and interestingly 4 out of 10 on that page are critical, while 6 are complimentary... I've also read (a few) other pages on the same site.
However, the point is that despite your opinions of Monarch (for whatever reason), all those who accept - and compliment - Monarch in their comments should not be subjected to such deprecatory and patronising descriptions. You are entitled to your opinion of Monarch - so be it. Accept that others have theirs.

Jofra, I have no problem with other peoples opinion... but it appears you do ?

yes, when expressed as you have - again, "... a lot of people are happy to be treated in shall we say the bovine way....."
So, sadly as you apparently are incapable of seeing the point, end of.

I am meant to be flying back Sunday but in no rush so may stay another week and fly back with Pegasus.
Regarding cheap flights my Daughters flew back out last Friday from Gatwick to Larnaca with Thomson Airways for £57 RETURN!! Great whilst it lasts I suppose.

I don't know what other people's attitudes to travel are, but I have come to regard air travel in much the same way as I regard hopping on a bus!

If I can get from A to B for £35 or so, I don't need a frothy coffee and a load of obsequious behaviour to sweeten the pill, I'm perfectly happy to get on a bus at one end, get off at the other, and say "Thank You" to the driver as I get off.

I appreciate that there are those who prefer (and can afford) 'First Class' treatment, either in Travel, Medical Care, Accommodation, or simply Catering, but I am prepared to forgo the frippery as long as the service delivers what I'm paying for

Notwithstanding all of the above comments, my Husband (has two very dodgy knees) would rather have the choice of a company that provided the longest leg room, if the choice is there to have. We take a picnic if necessary!!

That's a tricky one, isn't it?

Almost all of the seats with the greatest amount of legroom are Emergency Exit seats, and your husband might be denied use of them if he is not fit and agile enough to be able to operate the exit doors in an Emergency.

Otherwise, I think that you're probably looking at First or Business Class to get noticeably better legroom
