I think that's a unfair. It was moved within 10 mins or thereabouts and is really urgent. I see stuff regarding hotels, cafes etc that stay in General for yonks and moving it so quickly, it is unlikely to be read at all.

Sophie,
Thats exactly why I rarely visit this forum. Moved posts very rarely get looked at, so annoying.

If you click active topics or unread posts it will appear close to the top of the list.

It was moved to the Medical/Dental section because it is a medical question.

With regards to moving posts, moderators are not on the forum 24/7 so sometimes posts take time to be moved. They may be moved in under an hour or maybe a day or so later depending on if/when we have time.

It has been discussed many times about having topics in set areas or a big free for all on one forum page and concensus for now is that the different sections work best.

To say that moved posts rarely get looked at is a general statement - it very much depends on how each forum member uses the forum. Using active topics or unread posts will cover posts moved. Personally I am on the forum daily and always look at active topics first. This page covers the most active and newest topics and by the time you trawl to the bottom you seem to have covered much of the last few days.

Of course no forum will please everyone all the time.

I fully agree with Sophie the post was extremely urgent & should have been allowed to have the maximum viewings to have a better chance of receiving a helpful response.
Having had detached retinas myself the sooner you can receive medical help the better chance you have of regaining your eyesight. We only have one pair of eyes & they are precious beyond words.
Good luck Sophie I hope you have received the help you need.

I was on the forum most of last night, the last time was just after midnight.

I can confirm that the topic was very high up the first page of the forum in the Medical and Dental section. It would have been difficult not to see it. By clicking on either active topics or unread posts you can ensure you do not miss active or new posts.

If everyone was allowed to post everything on one forum, the amount of postings could very soon force the topic down the board and as a result it could easily end up on page 2 or even 3 without many members seeing it. At present categories whilst not pleasing everyone, seems to work best. This is especially relevant when seeking specific advice or searching for information.

One other suggestion is that if you have a topic that you believe is urgent or requires special attention my advice would to email or pm a moderator (Any moderator will suffice), they will be able to take a quick look to confirm and ensure other moderators are also aware.

Agree with Sophie

Post should have been left where it was posted, it always seems there are rules for some postings and not for others!!!

There are rules for postings. There is no favouritism for postings. There are categories for postings.

When moderators are on the forum they will carry out admin tasks, one of which is moving posts to the correct categories for the reasons already explained. Posts are moved as and when moderators have time.

Again, if you have a post which is urgent or deserves special attention for good reason just pm or email a moderator.

In the meantime we will continue to move/edit/delete as appropriate.

The problem with the Active Topics boards that it is nearly all items are for sale or wanted which bore some of us to tears and mean the temptation is to flick through them quickly and miss something vital. Or just go direct to the boards of interest. If these were kept separate and not included in Active Tops PiDs decision would be a little more acceptable.

Surely humanity indicates that these rules can be broken in cases of emergency. They are not exactly Acts of Parliament.

Sophie I hope you managed to find a suitable specialist and treatment and that it was successful. I did not reply because I dont know of anyone in Limassol! I can give you the name of my optician in Girne who did an excellent job (inshallah!) on my cataracts if that helps at all. Just pm me.

Thank you everyone for your interest and awareness. Actually I am looking for someone who specializes in Macula Hole and Degeneration and I know the person in Limassol is qualified. All I wanted was to find out if someone had dealings with him. It is acknowledge that there is no-one qualified in the TRNC (no matter what some of them say) and it means going to Turkey (however one cannot fly for 4 weeks after the OP) or UK where the same rules apply. Hence trying to find someone here who has been treated by Dr Petros, where there are no flying restraints.

If the post is of significant importance a pm or email to a moderator would have helped. Using the active topics or unread posts function also ensures you don't miss anything. The for sale or wanted items are moved to the For Sale or Items Wanted Forums as and when moderators are on line and have time to wade thro the posts. Even when these posts are moved to the appropriate forum, if they receive replies then they will always appear on the active topics or unread posts list. You cannot filter out all for sale or wanted posts from the active topics or unread posts lists just because some members don't like reading them. There are many members who have an interest in reading them, namely the original poster and those interested in selling or buying.

The forum works well in its current format, not perfect for sure but you will never satisfy everyone.

Thank to all those who recommended people who perform cataract operations, but sadly I'm referring to a particular area of Ophthalmology, but there is no-one in the TRNC qualified to perform. So it looks like it is going to mean a longish stay in Ankara, Istanbul, the UK i.e. not allowed to fly after the Op. Just wish I could find someone who has dealt with him. He and his clinic look great on paper and the internet but It's too much of a risk if I can't be sure.

Sophie, if op done in Turkey, you can travel back to TRNC by car and ferry. Just a thought.
Geçmiş olsun.

Sophie i am going to our optician in Lefkosa today, the same optician that has just repaired my husbands retina. He operates out of Near East alongside another DR who comes weekly from Turkey. I will ask him today and get back to you.

Wedinhorthcyprus. Have pm'd you as don't want to continue to bore people to death with my problem, although it is a problem that is becoming more and more prevalent from 65ish onwards and people must be aware. It can be disguised "behind cataract problems". However optical equipment is improving all the time and is being picked up sooner rather than later. Sadly not in my case though.
