Proposed plans for Lapta

According to a report in Cyprus today Lapta is looking to build a 200million Euro luxury marina, five star hotel and recreational facilities next to the coastal path, it will be able to accommodate 400 yachts and cruise liners.
It sounds wonderful, if a little fanciful, but before work starts on this mega project, due for completion in four and a half years, it would be even better if perhaps some of the potholed roads could be improved, some adequate street lighting installed and some of the unfinished projects be finished before the powers that be embark on such a huge and expensive commitment .
Which comes first, the basic ingredients or the baked cake.

Well, that is going to make the trip across from Catalkoy to Karsiyaka very interesting once the mixers, diggers and works trucks start to hit the poor road that exists at the moment. These days it is not unusual to set off at 14:00 and plan to get there by 15:30 yet still be late due to traffic! Maybe they are planning for water taxi's as well so people can get back and forth? It is just yet more of build it without a thought for the infrastructure required to support it - but it's fast money in the pocket and a new car to show off in so it will go ahead regardless. Sad.

I agree absolutely with Elizabeth. Not just some, but MOST of the roads are a disgrace, and many are dangerous. A few mirrors on dodgy junctions and corners would be of benefit, too. The walkway is still a pleasure, even with its broken glass, rusty rails and damaged furniture, but few of today's walkers will use it if this huge development ever materialises. We go there for the pleasure of a quiet open space,-without traffic, but with beautiful views in all directions,--not to be surrounded yet again by hotels, restaurants, and the rest that has been suggested, --and has already appeared over a large part of what was, a beautiful place to be.

There is a double page spread on this in the paper with quotes from various people including Fuat Namsoy, one can only ASSUME that what is quoted is the truth otherwise there seems little point in the article being there.
A case of watch this space.

I hope they can find enough rich people with gin palaces to fill all these marinas on the island the one at karpas is far from full. Likewise the south. Plus cruise liners?? Dock in the north and you won't be able to dock anywhere else.

The only reason my mind is not boggling is that it has already boggled too much about what is happening in Kyrenia and is threatening to explode.
Every cloud has a silver lining - I was regretting not being able to ge to Lapta and the coastal path: no Idont want tp!
I wonder what the super rich visitors to this extraordinary facility will think about all the sray dogs that will be around by that time?

Haven't a clue, but there might be a childrens boating lake somewhere to compensate the population.

Not yet but did hear a few days ago the plans are going ahead the cabin where you can get a snack and a drink will be going to make way for the restaurant, there will be hotel and marina,
was told the total area will be 59 donums of land.
