Re: Change 'Google' from Turkish to English?
Hi lizzybal
See if this one works. On the google page go to tools, click on toolbars and click on google toolbar that will put the google toolbar at the top of the page if you do not have it already. Then click on search (ara) and a box drops down, click on manage which is second from bottom (yonet) and then general (genel). The toolbar language you need is English UK then use google site United Kingdom (.co.uk) and then go to save (kaydet) then it should be ok.

lizzybal,
I'm afraid that you need someone who knows what they're doing (as opposed to you ) sitting at your keyboard to do it for you...
No offence intended !

Re: Change 'Google' from Turkish to English?
Hi ,is everything else on the laptop ok in English?
Control Pannel etc and word or outlook?
on google input bar, try searching an english site. Is repling english?
Have you set your default search engine settings to google.co.uk and then SAVE the setting?
Go to Control panel,
Select - internet options.
set the home page to :- Paste the link below
http://www.google.co.uk/
then click ok
If that does not fix, do the same again and click in tab that says use default and record what it says there.
Hope this helps.

Hi Howard,
Everything is in Turkish, I tried an English site as you suggested; it came up in English for a few secords then reverted back to Turkish. I have set the search engine to http://www.google.co.uk/ again no change. I appreciate your help and the help of the other posters, many thanks

Re: Change 'Google' from Turkish to English?
I've been lost in Balalan!
Well, not lost, exactly, 'Geographically challenged' would be nearer the mark
I lost my way a bit, on the way to (or from! - one or the other...) Dipkarpaz.
But not for long...
Do they have electricity there yet, or do you have to sit pedalling a stationary bile, so that the dynamo will keep your computer battery charged?

Hi Keith,
Well next time you get 'lost' in Balalan call in and have a coffee; yes, we have electricity now! the wheels are back on the bike for shopping as we don't have a shop in the village.

Oh Blimey
Are you likely to be heading towards Girne at any point? - It's just that the chances of me visiting Balalan in the near future are somewhat slim...
I could send my Apprentice - deputydawg - but unfortunately he has a proven track record of breaking things, rather than fixing 'em

Re: Change 'Google' from Turkish to English?
Hi,
The better half says try this.
Click on the top right hand box with your cursur and it should highlight Customize and control google chrome.
Click on this for the menu list.
Scroll down to settings
The fourth sections down is search. The right hand box is manage search engines.....click on that.
Go to bottom of the list and there should be a blank box.
In first box : Google Second box: google.co.uk 3rd box add the URL : http://www.google.co.uk/#9%s
Then click ok
Then search for the entry in the list keeping your cursor on the right hand side and it should say " Make default"
Click on this then it should search in English.

Have read of this and there is another thread open now asking similar question to you, worth reading.
It seems that the windows install drives the default language.

That's right Andrew, and it warns you to be careful as once you have chosen the language you cannot change it. At least, that's what happened when I did my instal.

My Norton is in Turkish and I want it in English, but I have touninstall and re-install. Can;t be bothered as yet. And maybe Google does not obey the instructions that your laptop does within its bowels, as google is external.
Just a thought. Maybe Soner could answer that, cos he is an IT Geek

Many thanks for the way you have all tried to help me , much appreciated . There is such a lot of information on the net , it all looks so easy . I have followed every instruction but always come across a stumbling block which seems to stop the process. Never mind , it is not the end of the world . I think that I had better start thinking about the motto stenciled above my door....' Live simply so that other's may simply live.... Ghandi .

Oh my goodness, your experiences confirm all my worst fears and nightmares about computers and the internet.
Perhaps it might even be simpler to learn Turkish?
