Welcome everyone. Gary Monger, I have to agree with you re 44, it became a very unpleasant place to go.

So far I have found everyone on KIBKOM very friendly and pleasant, I am sure we will get some differences of opinion now and again. This adds a bit of spice to life.

As an example, on a recent thread, the question was asked, Should The Grand National Be Banned? not everyone had the same opinion but things didn't turn nasty.

If you have any problems, Soner is extremely approachable and helpful.

I hope you enjoy KIBKOM.KOM

Thanks Blue Butterfly - but I have to disagree with one point.... It"s KIBKOM.COM not KOM. But hey, I still like you .

Of course those "guests" could already be Kibkom members - ie. they just couldn't be othered to log on. After all, most of those now 571 members still haven't posted a message, so why bother to log on?

Nevertheless Soner, it would seem this forum is coming along nicely ... 571 members and plenty of activity today ... let's hope it continues this way ...

Thanks iancrumpy, 593 this morning, should hit 600+ today. I think some people register and then follow the forum for a while before adding or replying to posts. I was the same on C44 and it took a few members already posting here a week from registering to actually posting. Guess there was no need to register unless they wanted to secure their Usernames.

Thankyou Soner and Marion for the welcome . Its not a case of being frightened to come on here . Firstly I am not too great on a computer ( in fact I am pretty darned useless ) also just wanted to see if it was friendlier than c44 .
I only went on there a few times , I went on there because we were celebrating being here 100 days and wanted to share it on the forum . Big mistake , started off well but then the nasties arrived and boy , did they turn nasty .
So , have been watching this one to see if it friendlier and it certainley seems to be , so here I am joining in

Hi all - I am a relative new comer to this forum, and it is nothing like Cyrpus 44, much nicer, and the contributors are really friendly.

As I have said before - it's good on here.....

so what anniversary is it now the two hM's???? Hope that life here is still good.

As to Kibkom there is a team that is ensuring that things do not get out of hand,. Such a shame that Cyprus 44 had to close and it will take a long time before any forum has that kind of membership. Hopefully KibKom may fill that gap, but it is up to al of you.

Incidentally, i was tlaking to someone today who felt they were looking for a replacement for Cyprus 44 because it was so simple to use and effective. I suggested they try KibKom and if they didn't like it, then tell soner so he could do something about it.#

that is ne really good thing about being 'new' - it can be shaped as it goes.

So if any of you who feel you are not as computer literate as you would like feel there is anything that oculd help them feel even more comfortable with KibKom - say so. Maybe it can' tbedone, but I am sure soner will try. He really is a whizz at IT

Hi. Just joined the forum as you all seem so friendly and helpful. Husband and I had such a fantastic holiday in north Cyprus in April that we are returning in September and will looking to buy and retire there in the next couple of years. Any advice and information would be great.
Already had loads of useful stuff from the forum so will keep an eye on it.
Have any of you brought a dog over from the uk? How easy,or otherwise was it, expense, etc ?
We are thinking of renting for a few months before we buy. Is there a minimum term for rental properties ?

Hi Darnley. I am sure you will get a lot of helpful advice. There are several people who have brought over their pet,s and hopefully some of them are kibkomers now and can help.#
As to renting, the longer period the lower the rent, and the normal is a year, but you can rent for 6 months. There are helpful estate agents here that can help , and also some personal contacts might be able to help.
Why not post on here as to what you want and see what response you might get. Or keep an eye on things as sometimes places for rent are posted. And if there are any questions you want answered, just ask. someone is bound to know, or knows someone who does.
welcome to the forum x x x

Hello Soner and Kibkomer's, my name is Liz , my husband and I have lived in Balalan for the past 10 years, have any of you visited my village on your travels to the Karpas ?

Welcome to the forum Liz ...... Shhhh, next thing you know they will start building motorways and hotels there.
Not been to Balalan but has always been on my mnd to visit as it is one of the villages that has no listings for businesses or services in the Kibkom directory: http://www.kibkom.com/Iskele/Balalan/area-listing.html
One day maybe....

Have now taken the plunge with the help of Marion, who twisted my arm to get me on here, (only kidding), I have been looking at this forum for a while now and I think it's starting to get the people in, I do hope it will be as good as C44, which I enjoyed, but without the all the terrible people that destroyed it, we are looking at NC to retire, so all the help I can get from this forum will be so beneficial to us, thank you again for the privilege of joining,
Robert and Margaret

Hi Soner thanks for your welcome. As you must know the new north coastal road comes to Balalan, as yet has had no impact on the village. Hotels etc etc........well time will tell , we have had 10 lovely years in the village where very little has changed so we have been very lucky.
I do not think that you will get any listings for businesses in the kibkom directory , we have two coffee shops in the village, one of which has beautiful views over the valley and does serve very good food , and that's it ; not even a market to advertise ha ha.
Balalan has always been a Turkish/Cypriot village , we are the only expats that live here , it is a beautiful place to live , a visit from you will be most welcome.

great to see your name Aussie Jock. You will be forever the Dome Freo!!! Both of you. (for those who wonder if I have gone potty, it is just that I met these two lov ely folk when I was in Australia in Feb. So I have the great advantage of knowing what they look like, and I am sure that Kibkomers will help them with answers to any questions as they plan to retire here. so glad you have taken the plunge and joined. We hope it will be as good as Cyprus 44 and we are all endeavuring to keep out the bad elements that killed it.. But it is up to all of us to respect eachother, isn't it?
and to Lizzybal, I reckon I would love to come and see you. Where is Balan? I should know, but I can't think. Often I have thought of moving to the Karpaz, but at the moment that is not a practical thing. But I love going to see the people at DEKS when I can.

Marions, I guess that if you want to find Balalan and you are coming from Girne then it is so very easy. Take the new north coast road to the Karpaz , Balalan is sign posted . You are welcome to visit .

'The bad elements that killed it.'

You'll need to explain that for me. Especially ' the bad elements' and perhaps you can name some of them to avoid the label of wild accusations!

Cypgab, I may be missing something here, but the way I saw it was that oneplustwo was speaking in general re 44, by asking them to name names you are asking for a 'slanging match'.

There have been numerous comments about 44, some quite derogatory and without foundation.

My point is that if contributors make adverse comments then they should justify them.

I have to laugh at those who threaten to leave this board if someone upsets them - and that's before it happens!

Re: A guest to this forum?

Cypgab. I agree, if people make adverse comments, then yes, they should justify them. But, if you gave examples of which comments re 44 you found derogatary and without foundation, this might give people a chance to justify them.

I was a member of 44, until it went rapidly downhill due to the amount of 'backstabbing and petty bickering.

Forum 44 is dead, perhaps it is time to bury it and move on, we have an interesting and friendly forum in KIBCOM.COM, let's hope it stays that way.

Have a look at http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/, even just the first page, and you'll see there was a thriving information source second to none. Yet people manage to complain about one aspect that allowed some freedom of speech.

I agree about moving on but promise not to get upset if you disagree with me!
