Christmas in trnc

I know its early , but was wondering what you are all doing this year .

Will you be eating out , going to uk , having family come to stay etc

May be doing some thing mad like going for a swim

Definitely going to England, we have a new grandson(born in June) and we can't wait to see him and our granddaughter.
We did do Christmas here once, but it was not right. It would have been better not to do it at all. better to spend the money on a great holiday.

I know I will be leaving the hustle and bustle behind in the UK for a nice peaceful and quiet holiday at the Pia Bella, all our Family go away so no problem there, this will be our 8th Christmas & New Year in NC 6 weeks this time we seem to be adding another week on every year, no swimming but plenty of walking and exploring by car, we find something different every year, we may venture further up into your area this time dippersgirl.

We only go to the UK for two weeks, so plenty of chances to meet you. One of the best times of the year here.

It was our first christmas here last year . It was very strange because every year family always came to mine , at least half a dozen or more . Also working for royal mail it was a very busy time all round. So trying to get presents , food shopping , cards , decorations up and work trying to get us to work as many hours as poss , at double the normal , it was manic .
So last year was different , no presents to buy , didnt put decorations up , didnt even do the christmas dinner , cos we went out to eat .
Wow what a rest that was
But did miss not seeing the family

Just booked my daughter a ticket to come here I havnt seen her for 2 years So a Happy Christmas for me.

I still do Christmas dinner for the 10 of us if this year it is on 4th November and we still give our presents out but not allowed to open them, I will leave my cards with a friend to post as I leave UK on 21st Nov.

I would love it if one year my family could come out here to me for christmas , but its very unlikely cos my daughter is petrified of flying , but you just never know

We always put up our Christmas tree and a few decorations and generally we go out for Christmas dinner but last year as we moved house only a few days before Christmas we were too late to book anywhere so we decided to have Christmas dinner at home for the first time.

We had a late lunch, opened a bottle (or two) turned on the TV and watched old episodes of Dad's Army and Porridge then watched 'The Great Escape' and really enjoyed ourselves

I have no idea what we are going to do this year but whatever it will be, we will enjoy our one day of celebrations and be grateful that we are not in the UK where Christmas seems to last for months!

what you lot up to at christmas ?

I am going out for dinner at a lovely restuarant and am going to have a great time with great people , then if not before I will be on face book talking to my lovely family . Then chill with my wonderfull hubby in front of the tv , watching a film or two .

Well this will be out fifth Christmas here.
The first we spent with friends that we'd met here. Lovely time,xx
The second we spent as a family at the Merrit hotel, brill time apart from the brits being greedy.
Third time,we spent with our daughter and son in law at their house, with intentions of going out for the evening, but enjoyed ourselves so much, ended up staying at home.
Fourth time, our family were going o Uk, but our grandaughter was extremely poorly with severe bronchitus, actually it was bronchial pnemonia. Jodie and Jon had arranged to go to uk to spend quality time with Jon's parents. That didn't happen. What did happen was, I'd arranged to look after their pets, and seeing that they had a bigger house than ours, invited 13 guests for dinner. Ooohhps... Jaya was exteremely ill, it was literally at the last hour that out Christmas meal happened.
The guests all arrived, everything was going smoothly, then I had a phone call to say the that my granddaugher was being discharged from the hospital at approx 2.30pm. I left them all to get on with it, and bless them, they did, because they were our friends.............................................
As you can imagine, emotions were slightly high, our three month old baby had pulled through. A brilliant time was had by all.
To try to top it htis year...well ...we'll see

This will be my first Christmas here and I will be spending it on my own, my friends are all going to the UK or other countries and hubby will be working away, good news is that hubby will be here for New Years Eve so we will celebrate the 2 events on the same day

Last year we went to the Malpas Hotel and stayed from the 3 day Christmas special, it was very good and surprisingly full of expats from the south, over 80 from one resort alone.
This year we are going to UK spending Christmas with family and going to Germany for New Year to babysit the grandchildren.
Not my choice would rather be here but wife wants to visit the kids and grandchildren.

Will spend Christmas in UK as usual. Did spend Christmas once in TRNC in 1995, was not the same for me even though we put up the tree and had a stuffed Turkey dinner. I need the crisp cold UK weather with all the stores runnin upto Christmas playing the carols to get into the spirit. Even if I live out to the TRNC I will make sure I am in UK for the Christmas period. Everyone to their own I guess.

We have already holidayed in the UK and caught up with family. We enjoy a quiet Christmas and are looking forward to a COLD Christmas after years of hot Christmases in Australia. It never, ever felt right having Christmas in the heat, so looking forward to cool weather. We always stay home on Christmas Day and I cook mouusaka, our favourite dish, takes ages to prepare so don't cook it often. It's a real treat at Christmas, even if it's not a traditional meal.

Its all sorted , going out for dinner at a lovely restaurant of our choice and then home here to a cosy rest in front of the log burner in my onesies ( rather large baby grow ) with a glass of red ( ok , maybe 2 or 3 or 4 ) so who is counting .

We are going over to stay at the Dome for Xmas, too bloody cold here in UK. Looking forward to our usual very warm welcome from all the staff at the Dome and Christmas lunch with friends at Al Shaheen.

Haven't decided where to eat yet, but as most of our friends seem to have sorted themselves out yonks ago, we'll certainly go somewhere. I really can't be bothered with all the UK nicities for just two of us. However, two trees will be decorated and lit up, decs all over the place and all the cards stuck up round the windows. We rarely lose any en route. Everything stays up for about 6 days, then they are brought down. I'm delighted Christmas doesn't last two weeks and even more delighted that we don't have a 6 week run up to the event. All too commercialied in the UK for my liking. We'll probably go to the midnight service on Christmas Eve which does make me feel a little homesick, but it's about the only thing that does. Family would never come out here and we can't go back to UK because of the dogs.

This will be our 7th December here. Do not believe in all the Christmas rubbish it is far too commercial. The first 4 we spent with friends in small, favourite bar. The last 2 years on our own in, again fav, little restaurant. This year we have given up, it is beans on toast at home with the cats.

New Year we will spend in Girne for festivities.
