Depressing song in a lot of ways but it did come out top in the Daily Mail today.
Mine is the Greg Lake song, "I believe in Father Christmas." From 1975. I never feel Christmassy until I have heard it played.
Also like Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea.

Very staid and old fashoned of me, I expect but:

1. Once in Royal David's City sung by Kings College Choir Cambridge with that wonderful descant!

2. "White Christmas" sung by Bing Crobsby

Another vote for Fairy Tale of New York, but two others that are favourites of mine, and regularly appear on radio at Christmas (I don't know why!) despite not mentioning Christmas at all - 'Keeping The Dream Alive' by Freeheit, and 'You're The Voice' by John Farnham...

The great and fantastic Mario Lanza recorded a Christmas Carol LP.

He sings all of the popular Xmas carols but my favourite track is Ave-Maria.

Hankies at the ready!

Not sure which is my favourite. But what came to mind straight away was spade it's Christmas. Which for me just brings back memories of having fun. Do prefer Pogues. One. Also thinking about a Paul McCartney one but can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

The Pogues song may well be amusing but has no value in the meaning of Christmas.

Take your pick from Harry Belafonte, Cliff Richard, Andy Williams or Perry Como as artists who did convey the
meaning and spirit of Christmas.

It could be said that only (some) carols really convey "the meaning and spirit of Christmas" - Mistletoe and Wine? A pagan ritual and Bacchanalian indulgences; When A Child Is Born? No religious connotations at all, just a hope for better things; so many other songs that merely enthuse about snow, parties and festivities in general....

Mull of Kintyre, Wing's biggest hit in Britain, where it became the 1977 Christmas number one and was the first single to sell over two million copies nationwide.

Carpenters: Christmas Waltz. Or in fact, any Christmas song with Karen Carpenter.

I love her voice so much....
