Water Meter cut off information

The following may be of interest to some:
I ran a test exercise this week.
I deliberately let the credit on the water meter reduce to zero, whereupon the mains supply was automatically cut off.
I knew that I had zero credit on my top up card.
However I put the card in the meter, pressed the button, and was given 3 tonnes of credit.
Clearly this will be deducted from my next top up, reducing the input credit from 20 to 17 tonnes.
But at least is shows how the system should work.
Note: this is contrary to earlier this year when my meter showed a negative 18 tonnes credit but then showed +12 tonnes after I had transferred the 30 tonnes credit from my card.
