Metahan today

Crossed over this morning to go to the post office. Queue was back to the Turkish Cypriot booths as the Greek Cypriots only had one booth open and were being a bit officious with documents.
Well the empty LHS lane which the GC's use as a priority lane was being well used by GC cars. It got a bit much for one of the TC cars in the RHS lane. He pulled out in to the other lane and sat stationary. The GC cars built up behind him until they too were queuing back to the TC booths. One got out to argue with him but he just moved very slowly on and then stopped again. Wrong of us or not we found it amusing. Kept us entertained anyway. Boredom easily relieved in our case perhaps!
When the TC car got to the point where he had to return to the RHS a car let him in willingly. He had made his protest.
As a result a second booth was opened and things soon moved along.
Just an everyday occurance in No Man's land..............
Merry Christmas everyone.

It’s no good getting annoyed! This driver did the right thing and has made my day. I’m smiling now!

Maybe we should all do it! It might stop it happening.

Spud50. I didn't say we were annoyed. We were chortling away as it was very amusing. Happy Christmas.

This is why I prefer to use Beyarmardu (Pergamos) to Pile (Pyla) crossing on busy days.
It takes a bit longer to drive to, but you are usually through in a couple of minutes, even with the SBA Customs checking your car boot.

But that would make it a very long trip to check your post office box in Nicosia, hardly worth the effort?

Waddo, why not a PO Box in Larnaca to save the Lefkosa hassle? You could then eat F&C food at Lambros on CESSAC Beach, Dhekelia and have another reason for a trip to the 'dark side'. I appreciate the original post referred to a Lefkosa PO Box, but there are other options for those wanting RoC postal facilities.

Well done that man. How dare the dark side manipulate No Mans Land to suit themselves. Surely it can't be right, or maybe no-one but us really cares?

Thought he was quite clever, Sophie as the GC police won't interfere in no man's land it seems. As long as things are peaceful I suppose.

tomsteel, take your point but the original poster was not going to Larnaca so why add that the Pila/Beyarmardu crossing is easier? By now everyone will know that it is manned by SBA and is an easier and less hassle crossing point, mainly because it is much less used than Metahan BUT it is a long way around if you are going to Nicosia!!! Which was the point I was making. Personally my P.O. Box is in Girne so I don't have the hassle of crossing to check mail - that is because all my mail gets lost/stolen in Mill Hill sorting office long before it gets to my P.O. Box!!

Still, full marks for the car that blocked what the GC's consider as their own private right of way. It is the buffer zone and we are allowed to pass through it but it is the UN who control it when they are around, neither GC nor TC police have any rights in it so it is a bit of a free for all area.

waddo, I did not raise the SBA crossing option, this was post 5, I merely added to RoC postal facility options. Lefkosa PO Box choice has its downside and the Metehan/GC Police attitude nausea is a major factor. I doubt many expats living in Gazimagusa, Iskele etc use a Lefkosa RoC PO Box. I also alluded to the fact in my post (No 7), the Lefkosa PO Box was the issue in point. I also take off my hat to the driver of the TC registered car who showed the initiative to use the other lane.
