Does anyone know what has happened about this.
Has it come into force?
What is it?
Has anyone used it, and does it work?

LoosesBoots. Yesterday you posted about Dhl on the Cafe Boss thread, the address given for them to receive goods was given as Girne, Turkey (Post Code) 98000 and a message to say do not put Mersin in the address, is this a post code just for Turkey.
Your post has been repeated on another forum recommending Cafe Boss and it was open today.

so is this TRNC postcode just for special deliveries such as are made by DHL? I haven't heard of it and would love some clarification.

All I know about it was someone put a post on another thread (can I mention names here!?) saying a post code was to be introduced to replace Mersinl0 Turkey.. There was a bit of discussion then the thread faded out.
Then this evening a friend in the UK (who was on a visit here recently) texted to ask if I knew any more about it and if she should use it.
I was so sure some of the know alls - oops sorry, clever and well informed people - here would have all the gen
It would be so useful, not just for mail but for all those irritating internet quesionnaires that assume everyone lives in the UK and America and insists on a post or zip code - at least I hope it would be configured to match those!

Re DHL Some time ago someone sent me a parcel by DHL and I had a plaintive phone call from DHL Istanbul asking (in Turkish) words to the effect of "Where the H*** is Ozankoy, and come to that where the ***** is Mersin 10". Imagine trying to explain that with my limited Turkish It appears the Turkish Post Office knows Mersin 10, but they keep it a secret from everyone else. May explain some of the missing mail. After that I have asked people to add "K.K.T.C." and my mobile phone number after the address for courier parcels.
I would guess that the 98000 is a code for DHL purposes only, but it is only a guess so dont tkae my word on it.

This was taken from a thread that was on C44 ages ago. Maybe someone, whoever is the first to get to Cafe Boss, can ask them. I was merely the messenger . Sorry to have caused confusion.

Remember DHL use 98000
If you use this instead of Mersin 10 or put it underneath Mersin 10 the post will arrive.
Never put Cyprus in the address it will go to the dark side, and maybe never seen again.
Mel.

thanks for that. Very useful piece of info. Maybe that deserves a mention in the Press for others who are not members on here. as Rambling rose says, maybe that is why stuff gets lost. Do you think so Karmel???? Thanks again.

Back to my original post, I assume no one knows about the post code for ordinary mail. Another question then, does anyone know how I can find out (Google of course isnt helping here)?
If it is going to be published, would it not be worth checking with Cafe Boss and other (if any?) courier services.
One other point about missing mail, I was advised by local Muhter's office to put full name, not initials. EG Ms Rose Rambling - not R. Rambling - as local postmen dont understand English names - or your mail may be put in the box of someone with the same surname and siimular initital and if that someone is a swallow it could sit there for months ,

We also have a post office box at Girne but quite often our post ends up at Ozankoy anyway ( part of our address ).

It was only one of the many "proposals" we read every week that will never happen.
From what I read it was only a replacement for Mersin10 and would never be individual post code or zip code, there is no facility to sort mail other than on a town basis.
Just keep using Mersin10 until we became the 51st state of Turkey and then I am sure the post code will change.

Hi all,
I have just been accepted into Kibkom website. I have been living in Girne since June 2012. Most of my mail posted from the UK never arrived. Christmas is around the corner and I have advised family and friends not to post any mail to me until I obtain the official post code for KKTC. Will it help if I also have a post box number locally? Having read all the discussions I am still awaiting the official post code. Can anyone shed any more light on this matter?

If you ask at Girne post office for a P.O.BOX they will give you one , if one is available, and will charge you pro rata as they are renewed in January.
It is an idea to ask people and UK banks etc to quote your post office box number as part of your address.
Hopefully that way you will get a higher percentage of your post.

Deniz: Going back to message 13, I dont follow your reasoning! The point I was making is hat while post office sboxes may be safer in some ways, if your post is put in error in the wrong box the owner of that box may be a swallow who might not check if for months , or might not bother to give it back to the PO. I have found misdircted mail (usually the address was incorrect or ambigous) in my box an returned them to the PO and appealed to swallows to have someone to check their boxes in their absence.

malaysia,
I think I can guarantee for the foreseeable future there will be no different post code than the current Mersin 10, Turkey. Mail will definitly disappear more often with TRNC in the address.
Where do you live? Is this an area where post is delivered, not many of those, or is there a CENTRAL COLLECTION POINT? In Karsiyaka we collect our mail at the Belidiye office. Never had a post box in 7 years, cannot see the point of paying more money when as rambling rose points out it is still very easy not to get your mail.

I have lived here 16 years, and am sick and tired of saying I have had little mail lost, and most of that attributable to the UK - eg. stolen from post box there, 2nd class inland stamps affixed to overseas mail, "the cheque is in the post syndrome" etc. Once you have decided which method is right fo you, Malaysia, make sure your address is correct and everyone knows it. I send self addressed lables to confused elderly relatives and scatty friends! See also my message 12 about names and Mel's about not putting "Cyprus"..
One warning: Christmas is the time most mail goes astray both in the UK and here. I think the local post office, which is not geared to Christmas, gets seriously overwhelmed. Sadly (because I like cards) I have encouraged my friends to send email greetings when poss - well at least it saves dusting! Best not to tempt fate by sending pacels or cheques in envelopes.

Looseboots:
When Ozankoy got street names and house numbers, the PO got itself in a right tangle over what people wanted doing. I wanted my mail sent to Ozankoy because being lame it was so much easier, but apparently lots of others wanted it to got in their post box in Girne.
I think the solution is simple:
If you want mail to go in your post office box: Dont put "Ozankoy" in your address - just Mr. Loose Boots, PO box xxx, Girne, Mersin l0 , Turkey.
If you want it to go to the Muhtar's office in Ozankoy: Dont put Girne, just "Mr. Loose Boots, xxxxxxx xxxxx Cad. No. X, Ozankoy, Mersin l0, Turkey,

Rose-Poor Looseboots is going to get everyone's post from now on!
Seriously though-I don't see how post codes will work here as I have had my address changed twice in the short time I have lived here full time-the water and the Kibtec still use the old address,my house number was changed at the last census from No2 to No4-despite there being only two houses down a private road-I couldn't get my head round that one at all.

Ours isn't quite so bad, the Beladay changed our number for the census and use the new address but kibtek still use the old number, at least the street retained the same name

I think Cyprus is Home has answered my question - it was a proposal not a done fact. Serves me right for reading other boards?
So the thread has served its purpose, and a new one can be opened if people want for grumbles about the service etc.?

RR,
Well done for posting it has given everyone a chance to air their opinions around the topic, does not matter where it came from. From past experience of the government in the UK and more regularly here proposals are put out into the press as fact to test the responses, that way they look good when it looks like they have done a U-turn!
On the positive side, some have learnt some facts that will, maybe, allow them to receive mail..........or not! lol
