I also think, that if done well this is an exciting project. When Glastonbury first started, there were a lot of negative comments, but it is still going and loved by many.
I also agree with the comments made in the 'OPINION' column in 'Cyprus Today'
The kneejerk reaction of many will be to abhor the intrusion of the entirely alien music festival culture into such unspoilt surroundings. And yet...the Karpaz is not some pre 20th century theme park where everything must stand still and which must be denied the benefits of progress that the rest of us take for granted.
The critical thing will be the festivals management. If it can be put on in such a way as to satisfy the environmentalists and every trace of its existence be removed afterwards, lasting damage can be avoided
In that case, by giving the Karpaz a brief shot at mass tourism whilst maintaining the everyday pace of life, it could just offer the region the best of both worlds

I have talked to many young people here and they are exited about the project, exited to be 'part of something', not always the forgotten region!!

Well, I saw that Tom Jones came to Girne in June and was not put off by our 'friends'. Maybe other people will be brave!!

I since have talked to people who make their livelyhood at Golden beach and it seems they do not know much more than we do. There does not seem to have been proper consultation and discussion, just promises of lots of earnings. No real info on how this can be made possible and now it is less than a year to go. If locals can't be optimistic about this..... and they really want to have something good happening here!!
I am here as a retired person and I do not have a business to worry about, but listening to their concerns, makes me wonder if it is such a good idea.
When Glastonbury started it started small and grew with experience and success, here they seem to want to start 'big' first.
Among many points, somebody said, how are that many people going to come here for 3 days - how many airoplanes if it was 80k???
