How stupid can people be, yesterday we had to visit Akay Optics, the one going towards the market, it's always difficult there with cars parked on the footpath and on the road. Luckily though Akay have a large car park at the back, yet some inconsiderate idiot had parked his huge Mercedes half on the forecourt blocking access to the car park. This guy, an English business owner, was sat in the shop while his companions were buying jewellery, totally oblivious to the problems he was causing for other customers.
Do these people have any idea , it makes my blood boil.

I take it you spoke with the driver and pointed out the problem.

I did but just got the usual shrug of the shoulders, Those sort of people aren't worth bothering with.

The bigger and more expensive the car, the bigger the ego! Some people think they bought the roads when they bought the car!

Just be grateful you don't have them parking outside your gate at home, or driving past splashing mud everywhere.

Btw did you mean the man was an English owner of a business or an owner of an English business? I did not think that Mercs were usually the vehicle of choice of the British!?

We like to take a walk every day in or around our village. When it has been raining and the roads are soaked, almost every time vehicles go past at speed without a care for walkers, they drive by without the slightest consideration that they may soak people walking by, ignorant pigs would be too kind a term for them.

Hitch hikers are in their own world of stupidity, dark unlit roads, dark clothing and they step into the road at the last minute hoping that you'll stop for them !

I do not think it was hitch hiking that Mollie meant ttolli.

It is part of the culture of N. Cyprus that people walk round the villages, often with children and/or dogs, and often very elderly Cypriots. Also that houses are built with doors and windows opening onto the street.

Cars, particularly large powerful ones and the dratted 4 x 4s , speeding, using village streets as a short cut, or to avoid traffic on other roads, and being thoughtless and selfish and , counterproductive as eventually it simply results in another bottle neck, even more dangerous for other road users.

Hitch hikers here are usually people who cannot afford cars, and have to walk down narrow streets , sometimes in the dark, to get to work or the shops, simply because there is no other way., where there are no street lights or pavements. People who come to live here should realise that, within reason, they should adapt to the style of the country , not vice versa.

I agree that wearing brighter colours even fluorescent might be a good idea, but you try to get such in the shops, and why should the elderly , or those who have to dress specically for work, be forced to change their ways for your convenience?

My Convenience???,It's called common sense , walking out infront of a car travelling at 60 kph, on the main coast road wearing dark clothing expecting said driver to stop on a dime??

Can't anyone else remember the old saying on TV and Radio? "Be bright at night, wear something light". You can buy fluorescent jackets/waistcoats in almost all work shops here these days - if really push to find them most of the petrol stations stock them along with all of the car parts shops - not expensive and most certainly cheaper than a stay in hospital. Face it, roads anywhere in the world, are dangerous places for pedestrians! Most people would not consider riding a bike (push or motor) without a crash helmet, most people will happily purchase and umbrella to keep dry when it rains, it is not a case of a drivers "convenience" it is a case of common sense on behalf of the pedestrian! Do you go out at night without a torch to see your way round unlit streets? Hitchhiking here is a way of life and not confined to the poor and needy - but some of them push the boundaries of common sense because they think that just because they can see the vehicle that the driver can see them!!

Well, unfortunately because of the dazzling headlights of other cars I dont drive at night any longer, let alone at 60mph on the coast road, so I have not met the type of hitchhiker you mention.

Nor do I go walking at night because of the danger of traffic, but although unpleasant for me, at least I have the choice. Some people have no option but to walk from Supermarkets carrying heavy loads on badly or un-lit roads without pavements which little more than 5 years ago where quiet and reasonably safe. Anyone driving a car with modern "floodlights" who cannot see them, whatever they are wearing, must be driving too fast.

60 kph, not 60Mph... - just over 37mph....
... and does "whatever they are wearing" absolve certain people of all responsibility for their own safety? A key word in so many matters is "reasonable" - is it "reasonable" if someone who is aware of poor or no illumination fails - or deliberately on a point of misguided "principle" - refuses to protect themselves by not using aids to improve their visibility - and instead attempts to place ALL blame and responsibility on others?

This is getting further and further off topic! Which was about inconsiderate parking and went onto inconsiderate driving! Then itn suddenly jumped onto an attack on hitchhikers! and from then on appears to be drivesr finding a scapegoat. Exciuse me but "Methink the .............gentlemen .........protest too much"!! A good driver would say,, yes I agree and I do not drive like that!

Consideration works both ways, unfortunately too many drivers do not seem to understand that other road users - pedestrians, cyclists, scooter users also have rights. Visitors have the right to stroll around villages and enjoy the scenery in safety and without being splashed with mud. Villager have a right to move around in safety, and people whose houses open onto the street have the right to open their front door without being hit by a speeding motorist on the wrong side of the road. Buying a designed car does not buy the road.

Where was inconsiderate driving first mentioned? Post 4....?

I do agree to a certain extent, but in my original post it did state that the driver was in fact an expat.

Had the same problem. so parked on the road just behind the car, there was a car in front of him, so he couldn't go anywhere!!!! He was not a happy bunny, I just sat there while he raved.....I pointed and said I am trying to get in to the car park.

The home country of the person is irrelevant, it’s either inconsiderate or it isn’t.

It isn't of any concern but all too often it's local people who get blamed for things like this so I thought I'd clear that up beforehand. Incidentally, there was no alleged about it, the car WAS parked across the entrance to the car park, I may have been going in to the opticians but my eyes were good enough to see that.

My ‘alleged’ reference was to who had parked it in that position.

What is so wrong with being pedantic/accurate using public forums? This, at least, "clears up misunderstanding." Just my opinion and flak jacket with helmet ready.

Mr Chinnery, when someone calls me pedantic, my usual response is "That depends on how, exactly, you define Pedantic!" - which is, of course, meant as a joke, while acknowledging my failings...

I'm afraid that time spent writing Technical Manuals has undoubtedly brought an innate tendency to the fore, to the intense annoyance of those around me.

I apologise for being condescending, pernickety, nitpicking and, yes, Pedantic - and for getting up your nose in the process
