Stately UK Homes

I ran across this article, and knowing many of the readers here are from Britain - thought you may enjoy reading it. I have never traveled there, but these grand old mansions are compelling. The TV series Downton Abbey, which was wildly popular in the US was set in such a grand home.

Seriously kayc, Google The National Trust (make sure you specify UK) and English Heritage to see what is being done to preserve not just the Stately Homes but other national treasures, and what a wonderful place the UK can be IF you are mobile and able to afford travelling there.
I havent seen Downton Anney, but I loved Upstairs Downstairs as an indication of what life used to be like for the different classes in olden days, does anyone remember that one?

Oh yes indeed, the series "Upstairs Downstairs" was equally as enjoyable to tune in on the TV. I Have to admit, it took me an episode or two to catch on to the accent (being American)
Both programs were extremely well produced and entertaining.
Another film done by the well known actress Judi Dench is "Victoria and Abdul" - fully entertaining. While we wait for some warmer days, a movie isn't a bad option.

kayc try the movie The Viceroys House starring Hugh Bonneville out of Downton Abbey ,covers the period during the end of British rule in India and the partioning of India and Pakistan.

Gordon Jackson as Hudson was one of those iconic pieces of casting that are irreplaceable. Like Yes Prime Minister without Nigel Hawthorne.
But I did not find the various accents easy kayc. Like American (and for that matter Turkish) various parts of the country have different accents.
For Victoria the recent ITV series on Victoria and Albert was enjoyable and informative and filled in a few gaps in my historical knowledge.
