Fly screens

What is the norm with fly screens?

Do people have them on all windows / doors or just the main ones?

I’m not that mad on the appearance of them but would like to have some windows open to let some air in and avoid high ac costs whilst also keeping mozzies and lizards out.

Have people used tescomar before? Any good? Reasonable price or would i be best off going to somewhere in Lefkoşa?

Any opinions / advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

I'm wondering the same. The windows I have a metal framed, and are not fitted with screens... and I'm getting chewed up at night by mosquitoes! I'm wondering if there are magnetic screens that can be temporarily installed... keeps the bugs out, but lets the breeze in.

Also was recommended to use the plug in mosquito repellent "Detan"... but do not know if it is safe to use in an enclosed room. The directions are all in Turkish, and too small for my translator to read.

I may resort to buying a screen net for my bed... like they do in the jungle. Ha ha.

What is the norm with fly screens?
This is very subjective and I do not think there is a 'norm'. Some people like them and others are not so keen. Personally, we have them on all our doors and windows as they help to keep 'outdoor things' out of the house - I found a snake in our garden the other day (first one in 9 years) and was glad that it was probably unable to get into the house. Of course, the odd winged insect gets in, but we generally have no problems with flying insects. I do not think they obstruct the view at all.

I have not dealt with Tescomar so cannot offer an opinion. Ours were fitted by Mr Fly years ago and have proved to be excellent, but I am not sure whether or not the firm still operates.

We started with just our bedroom, the downstairs bathroom and main patio door so we got a through breeze and kept the cats out.

When we moved permanent we added the front and back door which are again opposite sides of the house for more through Breeze and the kitchen for when cooking.
We did have a window which couldn’t have a conventional fly screen and we bought a kit from Lidl which you make the frame and screen easily and it hook on and of the window inside.

Something like this online maybe https://www.magneticinsectscreens.net/

We also used Mr Fly many years ago, more recently we have had Rasa in Ozankoy village make more for us, one has magnets to hold it in place, it works very well.

Cheers for the advice. Will probably start with the important windows / doors first as mint did. Will check out the mentioned stores and get some quotes.
