We stay just opposite the old tanners bar/ terrace down at seafront in Karakum. We have just found out that the large site between us and the High life Hotel which has been recently cleared is due in the next few weeks to have an Hotel/Casino built on it possibly owned by the Colony Hotel Group. Does anyone know how large it will be as we have been told that we are not allowed to see plans even though they have been approved. Strange country Cyprus planning a state secret we are expected to watch and see it built. Wont even tell advocate could be between 3 to 7 official answer. Anyone know anything please post.

Sorry I cannot help with information regarding size etc. We swim down there daily and yesterday we saw a man "satellite plotting" the cleared site. I made the comment to my wife, that another Hotel must be getting built? We were told that the house next to the Highlife Hotel is also up for sale (maybe already sold). At the moment there would be no chance of getting heavy digging equipment / wagon access down the sea front due to the narrow road and sharp bends leading up to the proposed site. Also, the plot of land does not seem big enough to fit a hotel on it.

Thank you for reply. The site is larger than first seems and streches back a bit. Access i beleive will be half way down road before bend to the right before old soho lounge was. Only really worried about height as our view not impaired otherwise. We always new land would be developed so we are not NIMBYs.

I stand corrected, I thought the land was the small bit that goes back a short distance before the change in height. Looking on google maps satellite view it becomes more clear as to how much land there is. Very sad that they deem it necessary to build another hotel / casino!

We were recently approached to sell our adjoining land. we were told there is the intention to build a 360 room 7 floor
hotel/casino on the available land. We are not selling as TRNC is our home. Developers have swamped Girne and are now looking all along the coastline towards the Karpaz. When might the mayor of Girne realise the reality is always in my mind, he has made many comments about the sadness such developments cause the island but what will stop the developers?

Thank you for your reply. I am glad you decided not to sell. We couldnt agree with you more regarding over development of this beautiful island this will ultimately lead to less tourism not more. People dont come here to see high rise blocks blighting the landscape they dont have to leave home to do that.

I was told by a manager at Lords hotel that they were going to build a Lords 2 nr to Cratos so it could be them.

most of the land has been cleared, there is a small strip left. if you are looking from the road there is a very large tree, that is the boundary

Is the cleared land you are talking about next to the little seaside cafe right on the Med. if so access surely is too limited as the road is very narrow and dips and turns with a very acute right hand turn at the bottom. Not only this it is right at the bottom of a ravine which is currently overgrown but nevertheless is a water drainage point. The sea there is shingle and has no natural beach.I thought building in ravines was no longer possible.

The surveyors were out this morning again also the site foremen had joined them this time and were getting their instructions so building work definately going ahead.
Access i think will not be along front by cafe. As you leave main road to drive down to seafront cafe before the road turns left there wil be access to the new site on the right you can see they have cleared land up to there to allow access to site.
Also i have found out that government have put compulsory purchase on land on left handside as you drive down the next road which leads to the Highlife Hotel. This is i beleive to allow access from both sides of the land for new hotel
