We have a post box in the south, and today when we fronted up we were told we had a parcel waiting in the central post office. We have no idea where this is or how to get there. Has anyone here got any suggestions? Any help gratefully accepted!

Actually I have no idea what's in the parcel or who sent it. I think it may be a book but why on earth I'd have to front up at the Central Post Office with a replica invoice to prove how much it costs is beyond me. Bureaucracy gone mad. Mind you, if it is a lovely Christmas present, I shall be very, very nice to the Post Office!

That's strange. If the parcel has come from another EU country there will be no VAT or import duty payable on it. Isn't that one of the few benefits of being in the EU? Why they want a replica invoice is beyond me.

i have never had to show an invoice to show how much it costs normally its there because its a big parcel ! too big for the local post office to bother with just take your passport

The local post office said the parcel was from the US but I'm not expecting anything big at all. I've checked with my friends and none of them have sent me a surprise present (but you never know, my query might prompt them to, I live in hope!), and the only thing coming is a book I ordered a while back. We're going to investigate on Monday so I will let you know what it is all about when we've front up to the P.O. and solved the mystery.

I would take with you what they ask for , you do not want to be going over twice do you.

If she doesnt know what it is or who sent it how can she show an invoice?

And there, Deniz1, you have it in a nutshell. I have a form in triplicate from the central post office, can't understand a word, it's all Greek to me, it has on it "US", and that's all I know. So I have got the seller of the book to send me an invoice for the princely sum of $25 and hope that it is this hugel expensive item which is being held at the post office. I live in hope as otherwise, I have no idea whatsoever what is awaiting me! And yes, these new smileys are terrific, aren't they?

Nope, Andrew, there's a note stamped on the form to bring an invoice for the item with me.

You will need to take the triplicate form with you, and are you sure you do not have to go to the main Post Office in Prodromus Street?

Oh, dear, now you've got me really confused about what post office to go to. We've decided we'll go to the Enogmi P.O. and ask them to show us on the map just which P.O. we need to visit to reclaim our mystery parcel. Hopefully we can't go wrong with that idea.
