How do I go about checking that there is no mortgage or impediment on a property?
Thanks in anticipation .

You ask the seller to provide you with a search from the Tapu (Land Registry)

Can this be done independently?

It can only be done by the registered owner or a lawyer

when i was buying in 2006 I went to Unsal the noter with the kocan and he carried out all the checks and informed us of the rights to a drive on one side and the piece of land of the other.
I assume if one has a copy of the kocan it means you have permission

Why don't you ask the Vendor for a site plan it seems you are going about things in a most peculiar way.
Unsal will not 'dig out a copy of it' everyone who goes to him takes the relevant documents for him to look at.
He has a tiny office opposite the law courts it is just a door on the pavement.

The vendor is a swallow not here and has no record of site plan
I think the house is facing a wrong way

If you go to Lefkosa Land Registry with the Kocan you can get a site plan on payment of a small fee from memory it is on 4th floor?

the seller did give me copies of everything that was required and then Unsal translated, explained them and after 2 days I returned to be told who's name the property was in and no claims outstanding.
