A question for anyone who has used the ferry from Tusucu to Girne . I would like to know if you can pay on arrival at the terminal or do you have to prebook via an agent.

Mike.

Jonnie is right
, but when you arrive at Tasacu go to there ferry company's office to pay your port fees and get yourself put on the manifest. The offices are by the old port gates one is up to the left ( Filo ) the other is on the right if you walk past all the restaurants were all the cars are parked at the side of the road you will come to the large offices of ( Akgunlar ).
I am in Turkey at the moment we come on holiday every year with the car, the gates normally open at 22.30 but the ferry doesn't sail till 01.30.

We have used it every year for the last 8 yrs. We are in Turkey at the moment. The crossing is not the best as the boat is very old but it is the only way to cross with your car.

Plenty of Turkish cars on the road here, Sandra, but I don't know for sure. Someone will have the answer for you. If Turkish cars are subject to the same import rules as other countries then you will need to re-register it as a TC car after one or two years, I'm not sure which. By the way, before we came here we spent many happy holidays in Ovacik, so will be nice to catch up with you at some point. We are in Karsiyaka.

Don't forget your steering wheel will be on the wrong side therefore devaluing the car here should you wish to sell it at any time.

Fortunately here we, as foreigners, are not picked out by our M plated cars in the way we were in Turkey.

You may find that a Turkish m reg will be allowed in for up to 13 months but l doubt you will be able to keep in the TRNC due to being left hand drive.

Eh? What about all those battered 25 year old left hand drive Renault's that immigrants from Turkey drive slowly around the east of the island?

Last time we used this ferry we booked online, but you couldn't book a cabin online, only at the office in Tatlisu.
(As the ferry had little passenger accommodation, and was very crowded we were glad we paid the extra to book one. Not sure how much it is now, but it was onlyaround TL 80 a couple fo years ago).

I guess you mean Taşucu Moonage as I don't think there is a feryy office in Tatlisu!!

Although there are two companies who sail from Tasacu to Girne only one has cabins, that is Akgunlar.

If you are booked on a night crossing the port gates open at aprox 22.00, they start loading the ferry about 1hr later. the ferry will not leave Girne till 01.30 - 02.00 in the morning arriving in Tasacu about 09.00, it takes about 1hr to clear all your paper work and leave the dock.
One thing I may have missed in my posts you will need to get an export licence from the car tax office aprox 10 days before you leave without this you will not get on the ferry.

Hi Karmels thanks how do I get it and where here in Turkey or at the harbour

If you are traveling from Turkey you do not need a export license, book on line confirm booking by phone 3days before you depart, I get a Turkish friend to make the call, on the day of sailing go to the ferry office in Tasacu and pay your port tax about 10tl and they will put you on the manifest for that nights sailing, they will tell you to be at the port at 22.00. the boat leaves Tasacu about 02.00 and arrives in Girne at about 08.30 depending on the weather. this info is using Fergun ferries ( ships name Filo ) the one with cabins is Akgunlar they sail from the new industrial harbour which is just down the road from the old town harbour.

Hi Glad it is sorted, we phoned them using a Turkish friend but it would not go amiss to email them the email address is on their web page.
As you arrive in Tasacu just as the dual carriageway starts turn in to the right this takes you down to the docks just before the dock gates on the left is Filo office.
Have a safe journey.

When we came here on a fact finding mission four years ago I know we had to get a local sim card for the phone. Now whether that was because our Turkish mobiles didn't work or because it was to expensive I can't remember. I have a feeling we needed to get an international package from our provider in TR which we didn't do. You should ask in your Turkcell shop or whichever provider you are with. And make sure they know what they're talking about !!!
