According to local reports, it appears that My Fuat Namsoy has been defeated in the vote for Mayor of Lapta. The new Mayor is to be Mr Mustafa Aktug.

I voted for the new mayor and hoping that things will improve for the whole of Lapta.

Thanks for your posts regarding all the local election Dennis. I have absolutely no idea whether this new guy will be good or not so good. But let's hope he's a breath of fresh air. He said they were coming and he was right.

One of Mustafa Aktug promises is to reduce the extremely high cost of buying water. Maybe 3.5 to 4TL per ton. That would be a good start.

Trouble is frontal man, I know you were joking but doesn't it drive you mad, that like me and the rest of us we are totally disenfranchised. Less than the suffragettes were.

I was just about to joke that "Well, the rest of the world doesn't recognise the TRNC, so the TRNC doesn't recognise the rest of the world at election time.." - and now I wonder - are expat residents in the south permitted to vote in their local elections (perhaps an EU requirement)?

Funnily enough I know a couple of Brits who have kimlik cards and I don't think they bother to vote.

You know I always use my vote. Think it should be compulsory. Alsoany uk residents who have lived here 10 years or more should be given Kimlik. Not swallows but residents.

Yes they are - for the moment.

All EU citizens are entitled to register as voters and cast votes in Local and European elections, though not for the national Parliament. In some parts of the south (notably Peyia) the expat vote has made a difference as to who is elected as Maypr or Councillors.

Whether this right is maintained in the future depends on the outcome of the dreaded Brexit negotiations..............

Anyone with a kimlik that does not use their vote should lose the right to complain afterwards.
