Hi, I'm new to this Forum and to the Island. I am trying to establish myself here and hope to stay long term, but I'm finding it difficult without a car. Does anyone know where I can hire/lend a car for a few months, until my affairs in UK are settled and I have the funds to buy one.

I am a mature, experienced, careful driver and I don't mind what it is. I need something as soon as possible, probably until the end of August.

I'm just about to book with cyprusbooking.com they look to be pretty good value. Will be using them for the first time on my next visit.

There are numerous car hire companies in the TRNC. You might get more positive responses if you gave some indication of the geographical area you are going to live. If you intend to stay more than 90 days, you'll need to start the immigration and driving licence procedures, the details of which have been discussed on this forum ad nauseum. Good luck.

Thanks, I'm in Lapta. Not looking to get residency at the moment... but will do longer te6rm and I'm sure the info I've read on the forum will come in very handy.

Just remember to keep a track of how many days you are here - they used to write your permitted number of days on your Visa slip but unless you enter TRNC via Ercan, they don't do that anymore - 90 days maximum, with a fine imposed for every day that you stay over...

Incidentally could someone please confirm that they do still do that at Ercan? It's been a while since I've gone through there.

To be certain, you would need to talk to the immigration people at the Interior Ministry, rather than relying on whatever I or someone else thinks - but....

As far as I am aware, you can have multiple visits of 90 days each as far as Immigration are concerned, but you are only allowed 90 days in any one year on your 'Foreign Driving Licence'.

I don't know whether the 'Year' refers to a Calendar Year or a Rolling 365 days, and I could be wrong, or the rules may have changed since I was given the information, so do check with the appropriate authorities rather than relying on me!

Hiya, just to clarify the 90days restriction relates to the time you can spend in TRNC per visit and isn't anything to do with car hire.

I think the gentleman that replied mentioned that as I put in my original message that I was planning to stay here long term and the conversation went off on a bit of a tangent. Hope that's clear. Jx

Car hire/loan was one issue. Longer-term stay over 90 days was another and that was what I was highlighting to you as a 'newbie' here. The process of 'visitor' passport annotation and TRNC DL for those staying over 90 days is mandatory and non-negotiable for 'yabancilar'. This is the point I was trying to establish for you.
