"All vehicle-related payments will be made under one roof"

Kemal Bağzıbağlı, an undersecretary for the "Minstry of Public Works and Transport", announced today that they would be taking over the Lefkoşa building formerly occupied by Cyprus Turkish Airlines. The undersecretary said that within one month all departments/offices dealing with vehicle registration, road taxing, MOT payments and driving licenses will be based in the former CTA building.

As most of you know, the former CTA building is on the main road right in front of the building that currently handles most of our payments related to the Ministry of Transport. For car parking purposes, you will have to use the same large car park - See msg 7 of http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/v ... =8&t=43316 for TomSteel's directions

It will seem strange not seeing the graffiti on the old CTA building

Does that mean we will all have to trudge up to Lefkosa for renewal of D.L as well as everything else? Yeee Gods and Little fishes!! Takes me back to the early days of sitting on stairs for hours on end waiting to get to head of the queue. Seems a backward step to me.

And they wonder why cars are not taxed and tested.

So all things "Motor" support that is already done in one building will now be done in the one across the road from it! Nothing will change, nobody will lose their jobs, nobody will have to travel from an outlying town into Lefcosia and back everyday to attend work. It sounds like it is just freeing up space in one building for another purpose - dare I say more people for "Public Works" like new roads and the infamous mountain tunnel to the other side of the Besparmak range?????

Always look on the bright side of life, it is a lot easier navigate than the dark side!!

Kıbrıs Gazetesi wrote "Araçlarla ilgili tüm birimlerin söz konusu binaya taşınacağına vurgu yapan Bağzıbağlı, böylece vatandaşların hem araç kayıt işlemlerini, hem de ehliyet işlemlerini tek bir çatı altında daha sağliklı bir şekilde yapacağını kaydetti" ... which is translated as "Bağzıbağlı stressed that all sections related to vehicles would be moved to the building, to enable people to sort out their vehicle registration and driving licenses under one roof."

There is no mention of other offices being used - but of course that is not to say there won't be.

That's about right ... only that all matters related to driving licenses will now be carried out in the old CTA building ... previously those applying for a license, that didn't have one from another country, would have to go to another building.

To be honest, when I initially read the report, I kind of forgot that you guys sort some of your stuff out in Girne - You see our local offices are in Lefkoşa. In any case, one hopes that you can avoid the trudge up to Lefkoşa as much as possible.

What about those people living in Guzulyert, Gazimagusa, Iskele etc? Is everybody going to descend on this one office? Mayhem will ensue!

Good point TomSteel - but as I wrote above ...

The old CTA building does have three floors though TomSteel - they could allocate a whole floor to, say, driving licenses. In the buiding, that they currently use, pretty much everything vehicle-related (at least for those of us living in and around Lefkoşa) was being dealt with on the one (ie.ground) floor. Also, there is a large car park there.

I know that things can change quite rapidly here, but am I right in thinking that we'll still get our MOT at our usual testing place, then off to Lefkosa with all the necessary paperwork, and cash, then back to Girne to the Police Station, (which will probably be closed) where we'll eventually get our new certificate. Surely the car parks here are full enough, without joining the rest of North Cyprus as we attempt to get new road tax, driving licences etc., in Lefkosa.

In this later updated haberkıbrıs report it writes that "the public will be able to do all their vehicle-related business under one roof" ... as opposed to "will do all their ... " . So Sophie, I reckon you'll still be able to use the Girne office as before.

Yes, then yes, but my guess is the last bit regarding the new certificate will now be handled at the former CTA building.

Probably best that you and others continue to use the Girne office as you have always done ... and then, if necessary, relay your findings to the forum if you find out that everything has moved to Lefkoşa
