From around 10.30pm on Friday night a totally red moon should be visible from North Cyprus for just under 2 hours. Full details and timings

That was an anti climax for sure. I observed between 10.00 & 11.00 pm and could see only the faintest of images once the Eclipse became total at this location.
I did wonder if that was due to high cloud cover but there was a bright star immediately below the Moon which showed a constant bright image throughout.
Certainly had we not been told that there would be a red Moon no-one would ever have known and if they left viewing until the last moment prior to totality they would have been hard put to locate it..
Perhaps there was a better sighting from the mountain areas as I did suffer some light pollution, typically our street lights which have not functioned for the past two weeks were switched back on today!

People further north would get the moon coming over the horizon making it appear enormous
By the time of the eclipse here it was too high in the sky:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(

"Light pollution" is not helped by the increasing use of idiotic hotel owners blazing the skies with lasers. What is the point of them? I would avoid booking a hotel which finds it necessary to advertise their location by using them. Laser light displays (use that term lightly). are a throwback to the nineties, when tacky disco venues, run down holiday resorts, failing business ventures etc used them frequently in an attempt to drum up business. What is there left here to pollute. the sea, the beaches, the air, the land, the night skies, sadly all polluted to differing degrees.

As the crow flies, we're about half a mile from Karmi and we thought it disappointing, Yes we could see it and yes it was a deep red, but the publicity build up far outweighed the reality as far as TRNC was concerned. However, in other parts of the world it looked magnificent.

I could not agree more with MikeK. What a waste of electricity and what a shame generally to spoil the comparatively unpolluted night skies here.
The eclipse was more effective after midnight when it was passing and bright light shone on the edges of the Moon, but even so disappointing.

We had a lovely supper at our friends 'DAMLA RESTAURANT' while keeping an eye on the moon. One of our friends had a fabulous Nikon camera andwe got these great pictures from her.

Great photographs dippersgirl.
So it was Pot Luck if you happened to be in the right area.
I did come back to this thread tonight wondering if I would need to book an appointment at the opticians Monday as everyone else had seen it!.
Not read any reports how it looked elsewhere but my friend back in Cornwall told me they had total cloud cover and never saw the Moon all evening, No surprise there then as I recall the total Eclipse of the sun some years ago when hundreds of people travelled down to the county and never got a glimpse of it.

Thanks tingtang, I have to admit that they are my friends photos, but we had a great evening and saw all - including Mars - really well, despite there being a couple of street light near by.
'The Damla' restaurant has just opened again and Pakize laid on a fabulous buffet. The setting is amazing and in this hot weather it is the place to be. If you want to celebrate your birthday etc. give Pakize a ring. Her English is good and she will organise whatever you want.
