Passengers on London to Ercan flights with Pegasus Airlines, shortly will not have to leave the aircraft and pass through security checks in Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Kudret Ozersay announced on his social media account.

North Cyprus News - Kudret OzersayNoting that passengers were severely inconvenienced as the result of a practice launched by the UK Department of Transport on Ercan-London flights. This requires passengers to disembark from the plane in Istanbul to go through a second security check. Ozersay argued that the same practice observed by the Pegasus Airlines on London-Ercan flights was causing further victimisation of passengers.

He said, based on his contacts with Pegasus Airlines officials on Wednesday, a positive development will take place on the issue within a few days and at least on London-Ercan flights, passengers will no longer be required to leave the aircraft and pass through security checks in Turkey.

In his statement, Ozersay also thanked Turkish officials and Pegasus Airlines officials. “Now it’s time to take steps for lifting the meaningless practice demanded by the British government on Ercan-London flights”, he said adding that they will do their best to have this practice revoked.

I'd rather leave the plane for an hour than sit and wait 40mins to and hour for take-off. They need to work harder on removing the embargoes rather than accept a compromise. Just my opinion.

Totally agree, like many I have signed the petition for direct flights - surely this would cover the security aspect. (just my opinion).

Agree with you Soner, however I find it soooo stressful leaving the plane as I am not that agile, have not flown Ercan since they started this.

Davedee, you are totally right, it did not cross my mind. The situation we have all been put in is so unjust.

Note that this change only applies to flights to Ercan.

Flights from Ercan to UK are still bound by the UK mandated security procedure & passengers must still disembark

It's a start Keith - Little by little we will get there.

Oh, I quite agree - I just didn't want people to get over excited, and then grumble when they still had to get off the plane

My cousins reply :

Deniz,

Read what it says again. UK has never given permission to fly to Ercan in the firat place. Turkey trated it as if it was an internal flight and got away wth flying to Ercan for decades. We used to land and stay in the plane and take off again. It was Turkey who changed the practice. And it is now again Tirey whois changing the practice back to what it was.

In his statement, Ozersay also thanked Turkish officials and Pegasus Airlines officials. “Now it’s time to take steps for lifting the meaningless practice demanded by the British government on Ercan-London flights”, he said adding that they will do their best to have this practice revoked.

The Britts have not changed their policy and yet they are changing it to what it was, how? Who is kidding who here? If it was the Brits and they have not changed the policy how did they get it changed or even why? Clearly Turkey changed it and now is revoking it for one flight a week. Are they serious. They can go all the way and through word of mouth can tell people which days the flights will not even land in turkey, just fly over and continue without landing but they sill not. It is a deliberate policy of making TCs life difficult so they can leave Cyprus.
