How long does olive wood take to season.

I am going to prune several olive trees in December (I am told this is the best time).
Does anyone know how long I need to keep the wood before it is suitable for use as firewood?

As long as it is not very green growth you v=can use straight away otherwise 1 season. On a woodburner it is easy to monitor, I use all sort all ages, if you watch how it burns you can use it to your advantage. You want a burst of heat, old dry pine, long heat over time old dry olive, wetter newer stuff just to keep it ticking over. Open fires are a different ball game though but the principles are the same.

thank you for quick reply Jonnie - so one season = 3 months I guess, as long as the wood has been kept dry?

Wood here will pretty much dry out over summer. If you have older olive or carob sections they tend to be drier and can be burned straight away though may benefit from time, newer growth which tends to be less dense and wetter will need a bit more drying time.
