Hi all,

I have got friends in the south that I want to meet up with. I have a car rental from the north so cannot drive over the border.

Could someone please advise on a crossing point I could use in Lefkosa that I can drive to, park up, walk across the border and meet up with my friends and grab some food , coffee etc.

Metehan has a car park just before the kiosks on NC side.

There is parking in nearby streets beyond the RoC kiosks.

Unless the friends in the South have a car I would not suggest Metehan as a place to go for coffee, food, etc the areas both side of the border are pretty bleak!

The best place would be to walk over at Ledra Street right in the middle of Lefkosa old town although I could drive there I an unable to give instructions maybe another member could do that.

Depends where you are travelling from , there are two car parks close to Buyuk Han (5TL ) , Ledra street crossing point , a 5 minute walk see map.

I would definitely suggest Ledra Street crossing. We go fairly regularly, and there is a lovely restaurant we use in the small labyrinth of alleyways that have lots of little gift shops too. The restaurant is called Piazza Restaurant, Stelios, the owner is quite a character, and does love to share his Zivania..... it is part of Rimi Hotel which is also in the little backstreets, opposite Piazza Restaurant. Or if you don't want to have a meal, there are lots of Coffee Shops in Ledra Street after you have crossed, Starbucks, etc.

Agree wholeheartedly regarding Stelios and the Piazza. But there’s no way I could describe the route to get to him. We walk to (nearly) the end of Ledra Street, turn left, and let instinct guide us!
Don’t bother with the menu. Just ask for moussaka. To die for! People have even travelled from Ireland just for Stelios’ moussaka. At least that’s what he tells the passers-by when we sit there! And we always agree with him!

Moussaka is definitely one of my all time favourites but does this one have cinammon in? I am usually disappointed as apparently the Turkish Cypriot version does not although Erol's restaurant does a really tasty one.
We always eat at Il Forno as they do great pizzas on the right just after H&M.

Mowgli, yep you are right, bit of a maze to get there....We were only there last week but still struggle to explain the way.... yes almost to the top of Ledra Street, I think Burger King or something like that might be on the corner, turn left... and then maybe just ask. Not Tried the Moussaka but, the Stifado is pretty fab and does have cinnamon and lots and lots of onions. but there are other really good dishes on the menu.....

Went last night and parked at a car park called Otto Car park just around the corner to the crossing. There was nobody on to pay so parked for free. Followed google maps to piazza with much ease, ten mins max, however, it is closed on Sunday evenings, so we went to a nearby restaurant which was very nice called ocean basket.

On the way back we crossed at a different crossing slightly more central to the shops and then followed sat nav back to my parked car. Not sure what I would do without technology!

Was a very strange experience walking through a walled city. Quite a unique experience. At one point we were walking in southern Cyprus looking up at people dining in northern Cyprus.

Slightly confusing as the only other crossing point to Ledra street in Nicosia is the Ledra Palace crossing which is quite a hefty walk away! Did you walk past the Bus Station on your way back?

Also 'Otto Park'? - Are you sure that it wasn't 'Oto Park'?

Oto is Turkish for 'auto/automobile/car', so an Oto Park is a Car Park

The ledra palace one is the one I used to cross to the south, then the one back to the north, in the centre of town. Yes, we walked past the bus station, kind of did a loop. Don’t mind walking a bit, helped to burn my fish n chips off.

And yes, it probably was oto... t’was dark though in my defence.
