Could anyone tell me if there are any laws relating to air rifles in TRNC, such as storage, minimum age, where they can be used, and who would enforce any such laws.

The local police issue a licence for an air rifle. This is a one time thing and probably not expensive. I've had one for donkey's years so don't know the up to date price.

I went to the Beretta Shop on the way out of Girne and was told by the owner that I needed a Gun Licence. He then told me because I was not Turkish my chances of getting one was Nil.

He also told me that they only sell .177 cal' and not .22

I would also be interested to know of there is a minimum age for a rifle. Is it possible for school age boys to legally use a rifle making random shots in the neighbourhood?

No weapon should be fired within 200 metres of any occupied building.

So who would any misuse be reported to?

You have to be Turkish Cypriot and have a kimlik. The gun shop will help you with the licence but only if you buy a gun. The licence is then valid for as many air guns as you want, 3 shotguns and two sniper rifles (I think from memory). Evey gun you buy must also be registered against your licence.
Then you have to get another licence to be able to carry a gun to/from the range or to hunting areas in your car, which must be certified by a doctors, otherwise any nutter could carry a gun. This licence to transport must be renewed evet year.
Someone else mentioned the firing limits of 200m, that is correct.
Any misuse can be reported to the police. The gun owner will have their licence revoked.

Thank you for all the information, much appreciated, but the problem I have is that the young boys using the air rifle unsupervised are the sons of a policeman, tricky situation all round.

Have a word with him, ask him to control his boys because you are worried that they may hurt someone...

Knowing this gentleman as I do that would be a waste of time and energy. I wondered if there was some official department where concerns could be raised.

I would go to a gun shop and ask their advice about reporting the incident(s). They would be able to put you in touch with the licensing body, who would visit them and if they are found to be flouting the law, the minimum that would happen is the gun would be confiscated and possibly a fine and reprimand (policeman or not)!

My point about making the approach to the father first is that as a policeman he could lose his job... If you record your approach and then are forced to take it further you have evidence that he was aware of the problem and did nothing...

His bosses won't be happy with his lack of professionalism...
