Warning (moderated) DIY

Just been into (moderated) DIY. They are putting a 25% surcharge on everything, probably as a result in the fall of the lira.

I am not one used to shouting rip off but most of the stuff on their shelves has been there a while and new stock which they pay more for as a result of the poor lira I accept should be at a new price but bearing in mind much comes from Turkey so should be effected little though may increase over time.

Sorry but this to me is a blatant rip off and they have lost my custom.

Not just (moderated) a lot of the other retail shops are increasing their prices or now only showing prices in Euros or Sterling. In an ideal world you would think they would seize the opportunity to sell stock at the original price and make a quick profit. However "greed" takes over. I guess we all have to make a profit somehow?

I can understand an increase as stock comes in at a higher price but a lot of this stock is not new stock and a lot comes from Turkey. It is not about making a profit it is short term greed.

I was speaking to some English people this morning this who lived in Turkey for 15+ years before moving here and they said, that if Turks blatantly increased prices over night there would be a riot (in fact it wouldn't happen) but over here, they are so GREEDY by nature it was bound to happen. They lived in Turkey in 2001 when they had their economic crisis. Just when I need a new Vacuum Cleaner and Washer!!!

BTW, where is (moderated) DIY.

Depends where they are buying it from as well. If it is manufactured in Turkey currency fluctuations shouldn’t be pushing the price up 25%

As I understand it all imports from Turkey are bought in either Euros or dollars.

I can highly recommend (moderated) Ltd.

Have been using them for 10+ years and have always been given brilliant service at very reasonable prices.
In fact have been given good discounts on many items and services and will continue to use them regardless of price increases.

Are members going to now publicly name and shame all the others that have had to increase their prices due to the economic crises.

That explains everything Jonnie. People have been telling me, you must go to (moderated), you must go to (moderated) for your stuff, they are terrific. 4 weeks ago I went and asked for someone to come and give me a quote for removing 4 old knackered sheets of bamboo sheeting and supply and fit new. Next day I had a text quoting 500 pounds. I rang to check if there was a typing error 'No". Got another quote elsewhere for 800tl. They did a great job. I went to (moderated) and said I thought their quote was appalling and just plain Greedy. I received the TC shrug and a more or less "please yourself". Never ever again will I walk into that place!!!

I have been using them for years too but no more. I am sure that the current economic issues will mean prices will go up but 25% on everything overnight is plain profiteering. Put your prices up as they go up everything else is greed. There have been no across the board increases in any other place I have been in today. Staged increases are a result of the "economic crisis" blanket increases are just using that as an excuse.
