If you stick around you'll be shaking your head at least once a week, not necessarily the same road but island-wide the driving can be atrocious, dangerous and often fatal. Per head of population accident statistics here are one of the worst in the world. Stay safe yourself.

I almost had a head on, in the same spot a couple of years ago. The other driver admitted he fell asleep at the wheel. (2.00 pm) Siesta I think. Just avoided it and he glanced side of my 4 x 4 with his door mirror.

In your opinion was the crash last night the fault of the van coming from Karsiyaka and overtaking ? or the Hire car.

Absolutely the van overtaking on a blind corner, the hire car had no chance. we were on the pavement and had just walked past, and I mean just, walked past the house, when the van hit the car bounced off, and took the wall of the house down. Absolute madness but for a couple of seconds would have killed us as well.

Exactly, and the poor Elderly English couple are told they can't continue their car hire until the Police establish the blame and the young couple just walk away with a caution . I beleive the innocent couple were hospitalised.

Unfortunately we were leaving early the next morning and are now back in the UK.

Are dashcams permitted? They are in the UK, but are subject to specifications re. positioning and visibility of screen (if fitted). However, being permitted they are welcomed by insurance companies, some of whom apparently give a discount for use.
If they are permitted in TRNC, perhaps a very useful and sensible accessory to use....

Did you actually witness the accident. if so did the police have your details and interview you.
The reason I ask is that a friend of mine who speaks perfect Turkish and English has been asked to go to Lapta police station today to act as interpreter. I have this from a mutual friend and do not know any details as yet. I appreciate you are back in Blighty and may not want to become involved. It's nice to take some of these lunatics of the road.

I was told yesterday that the Van driver had now admitted liability. I hope so to save the innocent couple anymore grief.
