It seems that it is obvious in life that one cannot please everyone, not even Soner or . so maybe it is time to ride off on your and find some (celebrations) where there are no or or nor even any under the . But be happy and , and beware of leaping approaching your roof as the weeks draw closer to time.

I learned a long time ago that it cdoesn't pay to be a Humbug.

Lots of love from Scrooge

Well said Marion & Halfful. There are a lot of people in the world at the moment who would love to have some light heartedness as their lives are s***. We are very lucky to have this as a discussion instead of some of the atrocious things others are currently enduring and having to talk about.

Well done Soner for bringing some 'twinkle into our lives'

Ha Ha K.C. lovin' it

What happened to the art of conversation? Smiley's do nothing for me and if people cannot express their selves using the English language rather than using silly emoticons then we might as well all take up sign language.

I think smileys are light-hearted fun, and do bring a smile to one's face. Well, mine at least. Not sure about some of the others responding. Perhaps we all need do some some silly stuff, just to remind us that life isn't all about being serious all of the time. And however well you can write, the silliness of some of the smileys is, for me, just a reminder to lighten up when I'm getting too serious. This graphic reminds me of the very serious librarian in the country town I lived in in south-east Queensland. At Christmas time she installed a Christmas tree which, when kiddies came in, would burst into life with huge eyes, eyelids flapping wildly with big eyelashes, and the most enormous mouth shouting out: "We wish you a merry Christmas." The children used to stand their entranced, and our so staid librarian used to have the time of her life.

The odd one can enhance the emotion of a post. Nothing to do with the use of English Language just enhancing!

However too many and I ignore the message because I cannot be bothered figuring it out. Also - PUT CHRISTMAS BACK TO CHRISTMAS!!!!! GGRRRR

OK just a suggestion, lets all meet up at a pub some where and communicate just using facial expressions. Mind you having been to some of the expat bars in the past it appears as though that may be the norm for communication nowadays.

But who is having the fun? Surely it is only the poster that is having the fun. Maybe I am missing something but I cannot decipher what most of these emoticons are trying to say, if at all anything.

I am finding the Christmas ones very premature(story of my life!).
But I like the other new ones.
The problem I find is that you now have to scroll down an awful long way down to get to submit etc.

What i find very hard to grasp is that these idiotic, inane posts have more hits then the political ones.
My god its such a long way now to click on submit.

Perhaps the idiotic/inane posts are what people want to read, a bit of light hearted entertainment
Not the boring/ depressing politics, which we can't change anyway

We're supposed to be here living the life and enjoying our twilight years not grumpy old farts complaining about everything, what's wrong with a little light humour to brighten up the posts, they don't hurt anyone unlike some of the words used by some posters, lets have a laugh

seriously, smileys have their place, but lets not overdo. I am trying to catch up on PMs and I find the Christmas smileys on the left of what I am typing distracts my eye and ruins my concentration. Also , like many people, Christmas is a time of sad memories for me, and I really would prefer not to be reminded of it this early.

Oh dear, now after all the sh##### that has happened in the past year, I kind of disagree RR, Christmas is the time for remembering the GOOD in our life, and why we are here. As for PM's, well, you are obviously very popular, lucky lady.
I'm sure there are many on here who would love to be in your shoes.
