Our local Cooperative Bank would not change sterling to lira this morning.

That's an intelligent move considering they are desperate for foreign currency! I suppose basic economics or common sense isn't "the Turkish way."

The tl has been jumping all over the place this morning. One minute it was 8.50 then 8.39 then 8.77.

Overnight it went up to 8.9528.

With Erdogan you think if anything he'll cut interest rates and with the banks not taking sterling it reminds me of one of my favourite bits in Airplane;

I got lost in the morass of facts and figures, when asked if I knew what gold was doing. Bearing in mind Mr Erdogan told everyone to look under the mattress. Not my mattress I hasten to add.
