Undecided whether to buy here in the UK or in TRNC. Looked on line this morning and several companies not quoting on lira and saving they have no stock!

Unable to find anyone selling at a decent rate online, most branded currency dealers have pulled out of the TRY market for the time being and are not even listing the lira. 7tl to £ is way better than I can find here in the UK today.
If anyone knows different let me know!

At any given moment, you will get a better rate in TRNC than you will in UK.

Your quandary is this: - will the UK rate today be better or worse than the TRNC rate at some point in the future - and that, unfortunately, is unknowable!

Compromise!

Get half of your holiday cash today in UK, and half when you come to TRNC, that way, you will only lose 50% of what you would have done if you make the incorrect decision with 100% of your holiday cash.

Don't be greedy, 6 point anything is a good rate, better than we had for a long time, and if it goes up, well, you've still got half of your money left to take advantage of the higher rate, and if it goes down, at least you got some of your money changed at 6 point something

You could get yourself a Revolut Card, However I don’t know how long you would have to wait to activate the account once signed up, but to sign up takes a minute or two Online.
But as I post 7.39 to the £ is what’s available.

Hi Keith, my point was/is I was unable to locate any company offering anywhere near the market rate here in the UK and just wanted to know what rate was achievable on the ground in TRNC.

Also, I work very hard for a living and will always seek the best value for my money, why would I not?

Regards
SWN

Hi SW,

My point was that the best possible exchange rate at some undetermined point in the future is unknowable.

If you make a bet and put it all on one possible outcome, you could win or lose, whereas if you hedge your bets by splitting the difference, you will be assured of an outcome that is better than the worst outcome. No advice can guarantee you a better outcome!

I use this site https://www.compareholidaymoney.com/buy ... h-lira.php

It is all to do with timing I got 8.5 to the pound last week and yes I would have got more in TRNC.
I am going over in October as long as its not above 8.5 then I will be quid's in.

Oh, sorry!

I didn't know that you only wanted to know the local rate, because you said
Undecided whether to buy here in the UK or in TRNC
and
...I work very hard for a living and will always seek the best value for my money...

- so I thought that you were looking for some advice or guidance

Feel free to ignore my advice, in that case!

Havea nice day...
